*Weekend Update* Humboldt is ready for the Summer Sizzler and Canada Day festivities
There will be plenty of fun regardless of your age with the 2025 edition of the Summer Sizzler in Humboldt this weekend.
On Friday, there will be plenty of excitement with the first day of the Midway on the Uniplex Grounds from 3:00 pm-10:00 pm.
There will also be free face painting, balloon twisting, and Museum activities inside of the Uniplex Convention Centre from 3:00 pm- 8:00 pm.
Also, from 3:00-8:00 pm on that day, there will be free bouncy castles and inflatables located on diamond #3 at Centennial Park.
Seeding completed in Saskatchewan
Another seeding season is in the books as the latest Crop Report from the Ministry of Agriculture confirmed that 100 per cent of seeding in the province is completed.
Producers were also greeted with some much-needed rainfall over the last week.
Inside of the northeast region, the Kelvington area led the way with 24 mm, followed by Rose Valley and Middle Lake areas that both received 22 mm. The Lake Lenore area received 20 mm.
18UAAA Red Sox fall just short of comeback against the Cubs
The East Central 18UAAA Red Sox made a valiant comeback effort last night in Muenster against a five-run deficit to the Saskatoon Cubs but fell just short with an 8-6 final score.
After a double by the Cubs Reese Brons opened the scoring with one run, the Red Sox rallied off a Blake Morelli single to take a 2-1 lead.
Cubs Trenton Kooy sent a solo shot over the ivy in the 3rd to tie it up. An error in the 4th gave the Cubs another leg up with a single and a 3-2 lead.
Humboldt RCMP seek assistance in assault investigation
Humboldt RCMP needs the public’s help in a local assault investigation.
On June 11, 2025, at approximately 12:15 a.m., Humboldt RCMP received a report of an assault at a residence on 13th Street in Humboldt.
Investigation determined two males entered the residence. A male occupant of the residence left with the suspects. He was assaulted. His injuries were non-life-threatening in nature.

Canada's first FMD vaccine bank is another step closer
Foot-and-mouth disease is a highly contagious and severe disease that affects cattle, sheep, swine, and other cloven-hoofed animals making it hard for them to eat and walk, leaving them weak and sick.
The FMD vaccine bank builds on existing protections for the livestock industry and equips producers with another tool to control and eliminate the disease should an outbreak occur.
Budget 2023 committed $57.5 million over five years, with $5.6 million ongoing, to the CFIA to establish the FMD vaccine bank and response plans.
Federal union restarting contract talks for more than 120,000 public servants
Two years ago, more than 120,000 federal public servants went on strike after negotiations broke down.
Now, the union representing those workers is going back to the bargaining table with the government with the goal of securing greater job security and remote work options for its members.
The Public Service Alliance of Canada says next week's initial meetings offer its first opportunity to present priorities identified by members, such as better wages, greater job security and stronger provisions for remote work.
The 2025 wildfire season is on track to be Canada's 2nd-worst on record
This year's wildfire season in Canada is shaping up to be the second-worst on record and federal officials are warning of a dangerous summer in parts of British Columbia.
Officials with several government departments held a technical briefing Thursday in Ottawa with an update on the state of multiple wildfires and its forecast for the coming months.
Day of Caring radiothon raises over $643,000 and counting
Saskatchewan's generosity was on full display Thursday for the Day of Caring radiothon in support of wildfire evacuees.
The Canadian Red Cross reported receiving $643,156.30 by 5:50 p.m., with donations still flowing in and being accepted until Monday, when the final total will be revealed. The federal government's matching portion will then be added to the total.
Nutrien Ag Solutions matched donations up to $100,000 during the morning portion, and by the end of the day, up its support to $300,000.
Burgers & Ballads as the Futuristic Industries All-Star Choir performs at the Museum's BBQ & Concert
It was the middle of the day, but the stars were still shining in Humboldt as the Futuristic Industries All-Star Choir and Ray Whitton performed outside of the Museum on 6th Avenue during lunch hour on Thursday.
Along with the music, the sweet summertime scent of burgers on the grill helped draw a crowd for the Humboldt & District Museum’s concert and BBQ.
