Latest building permit numbers show Saskatchewan in a strong state
Building permits saw another strong period of growth in Saskatchewan as the latest Statistics Canada figures indicate a 31.5 per cent increase from April 2024 to April 2025. The total value of those building permits reached $290 million in April 2025.
"The continued rise in building permits demonstrates how our strong economy is delivering for Saskatchewan people," said Trade and Export Development Minister Warren Kaeding. "Our stable business environment and competitive incentives are bringing jobs, investments and opportunities to everyone who calls this province home."
Public service shrinks by nearly 10,000, with tax, immigration hit the hardest
The federal public service shed almost 10,000 people last year, with the Canada Revenue Agency and Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada losing the most employees.
The last time the public service contracted was in 2015, when the number of people employed dropped just slightly from 257,138 to 257,034.
The number of public servants employed by the federal government fell from 367,772 to 357,965 over the last year.
Fentanyl czar says government's border bill will help in fight against lethal drug
Canada's fentanyl czar says the fight against the deadly opioid would get a boost from proposed new tools for law enforcement in the Liberal government's recently tabled border bill.
Kevin Brosseau, the federal point person on fentanyl, welcomes provisions in the Strong Borders Act to increase inspection powers, give police easier access to information, crack down on money laundering and improve control of chemicals used to make the drug.
Woman from James Smith Cree Nation charged following seizure of 600 grams of illicit drugs
A 31-year-old woman from the James Smith Cree Nation has been charged after more than 600 grams of illicit drugs were seized by Melfort RCMP.
On Thursday morning (June 12) at around 8:30 am, while conducting a traffic stop at the James Smith Cree Nation, officers could see drug paraphernalia in plain view in the vehicle.
Roughriders travel to Hamilton for first road game of the season
It was a case of good news and bad news regarding the Saskatchewan Roughriders injury situation following Week 1 of the 2025 Canadian Football League (CFL) season.
The Roughriders (1-0) head to Hamilton (0-1) for a matchup against the Tiger-Cats on Saturday.

Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission invites public to engage in human rights conversation in Humboldt
The Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission will host an evening of human rights education and engagement on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at the Humboldt Uniplex.
The event offers an opportunity for people in Humboldt to learn more about their rights under The Saskatchewan Human Rights Code and take part in a meaningful conversation about the future of human rights in the province.
Muskoday First Nations walkers on the way to the Legislature with a message about the fentanyl crisis
A group of resolute walkers is trekking down Highway 6 from Muskoday First Nation to the Legislature in Regina to bring attention to the fentanyl crisis, not only in their home nation, but across the province and the country.
Erica Hennie and Betty Prosper are among over a dozen walkers who set out from their home on Monday, June 9. Originally from La Ronge, Hennie works at the Muskoday Health Centre, and Prosper is a former addictions counsellor. Discover Humboldt caught up with the group north of Watson on Highway 6.
