Saskatchewan marks Women Entrepreneurs Week, highlights economic impact

The Government of Saskatchewan has proclaimed May 11 to 17 as Women Entrepreneurs Week, recognizing the growing contributions of women-led businesses to the province’s economy.

“Women are making significant contributions in every sector of our economy,” said Alana Ross, minister responsible for the Status of Women. “Each May, our government is proud to partner with Women Entrepreneurs of Saskatchewan (WESK) to celebrate the innovation, resilience and success of women-led businesses that are helping to build a strong Saskatchewan.”

Marysburg Royals stay perfect with 12-2 romp over Outlaws

The Marysburg Royals go to 2-0 in the early going of the season following their 12-2 rout of the Saskatoon Outlaws in last night's Saskatoon Senior League. Taylor Rueve led the way with three big hits driving in 5 Royals runs. Rueve doubled in the second scoring two, singled in the third for another pair, and capped his evening with one more RBI on a single in the fifth.

Dreams take the streets: Summer Sizzler parade to return with Disney theme

The summer sizzler parade will soon be back in Humboldt, and this year it's bringing the magic of Disney. It should be a celebration the whole community won’t want to miss. 

Humboldt Downtown Business Improvement District (BID) will be overseeing the event. This will come after they organize the Santa Claus Parade during the Moonlight Madness.

The world of play opened up in presentation by Dr Sarah Aiono

The importance of play in learning development from the formative childhood years through to adulthood was at the forefront of a presentation by renowned educator, researcher and speaker Dr. Sarah Aiono. Dr. Aiono, who hails from New Zealand, has been travelling the province for the past three weeks, guiding educators and parents on the importance of creative play in making neurological connections. On Monday night, May 12, she made a stop at the Horizon School Division for a presentation to parents and community partners.  

Travel to the U.S. takes another hit in April as Canadians vacation elsewhere

Travel to the United States took another hit in April with booking agents saying an "elbows up" attitude over the trade war has Canadians pulling back. 

Canadian residents returning by automobile from the U.S. in April fell on a year-over-year basis for the fourth consecutive month, preliminary numbers released by Statistics Canada showed Monday. The 1.2 million trips represented a 35.2 per cent drop from the same month in 2024 and 45.1 per cent lower than April 2019, before the pandemic.

Despite a polarizing election, poll suggests Canadians don't want a two-party system

While the recent federal election turned into a tight race between the Liberals and Conservatives that left other parties trailing far behind, a new poll suggests most Canadians don't want the country end up with a two-party system.

The poll of over 1,600 Canadians, conducted by Leger Marketing for the Association for Canadian Studies between May 1 and 3, suggests only 21 per cent of Canadians think the country would be better off with a system where two parties dominate the political landscape.

Sweet Support: Tim Hortons Smiles Cookies raise over $27K for HDHF

Another successful Tim Hortons Smile Cookies campaign is in the books here in Humboldt. 

During the week, $ 27,207.75 was raised from the Smiles Cookies, with the proceeds going towards the Humboldt District Health Foundation (HDHF). 

On Monday afternoon, Tim Hortons presented a cheque to the HDHF. 

Indigenous Economic Development Day proclaimed for May 12

The strength of Saskatchewan’s economy is based on the participation of all sectors and all peoples. May 12 has been designated as Indigenous Economic Development Day by the Government of Saskatchewan. It recognizes the job creation, entrepreneurial spirit and economic opportunities that have led to increased participation by Indigenous partners.
