New products are everywhere on the market and choosing the right ones can determine profitability and long-term success for your farm. I’m going to talk about one group of products that gets a lot of attention -- micronutrient fertilizers.

Question Period: Separation petition, a ‘crumbling’ south-Saskatchewan school, and funding for Ukrainian refugees

The Saskatchewan NDP spent Question Period asking the Premier if he would support a referendum on separating from Canada, referring to the recent launch of an online petition by the Unified Grassroots organization and its founder, Nadine Ness.

The NDP didn’t get a reply, but not because Scott Moe weaved his way around the question. It was because Deputy Premier Jim Reiter stood to speak in his place.  

HCAA Badminton results are in, Englefeld's Cabingan off to provincials

Congratulations to Englefeld's Lorenz Cabingan for placing first in the Boys Singles  category at the SHSAA Badminton Regional Championship held this past Saturday in  Prince Albert. Lorenz is now off the the SHSAA Badminton Provincial Championship  this Saturday in Estevan. 

  

Robb Nash Project connects with local students on mental health issues

Taken from the most basic perspective, the mission of speaker, musician and mental health advocate Robb Nash is simple – he's saving lives. 

Nash spent a portion of the day with students from the Horizon School Division in Lanigan on May 6. The event was part of a mental wellness symposium for students, a key pillar of the Division’s commitment to wellness. 

Three homes destroyed in weekend wildfire on James Smith Cree Nation

Three homes were lost in a wildfire on the James Smith Cree Nation over the weekend.

According to the Muskoday Volunteer Fire Department Facebook page, they, alongside five other fire departments, were called to the scene on Saturday around 3:20 p.m.

Kinistino Fire Department, Garden River Fire Department, Melfort Fire Department, Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency, and firefighters from Sask First Nation Emergency Management were also in attendance, and they were able to return to their respective halls at around midnight.

RCMP seek break and enter thief from a crime committed in Birch Hills

Melfort RCMP are looking for the public’s assistance in tracking down those who committed a break and enter in Birch Hills. 

The break-in occurred on May 2, 2025 at about 2:00 am when a male suspect entered the property by breaking in a door through the back of the building. The lone male suspect stole multiple items such as alcohol, food and some cash that was at the property.   

The male was captured on video surveillance, producing the images provided.  

Avian influenza is starting to show up in the Prairies

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is reporting the presence of AI in three non-commercial poultry flocks in Saskatchewan last week, in the RM of Indian Head, the RM of Colonsay, and the RM of Lipton.

To date, one case has been found in a commercial poultry operation in Manitoba in the RM of Wallace.

Previous occurrences have been found in Ontario and Nova Scotia.

Most poultry and egg production operations already have biosecurity measures in place, but producers who maintain small flocks, should look at enhancing their on-farm biosecurity measures.

Carney set to meet with Trump at White House today

Prime Minister Mark Carney will have to navigate a delicate balance during his first in-person meeting with Donald Trump today, following months of the U.S. president targeting Canada with tariffs and taunts.

Carney and Trump will meet at the White House and the prime minister has said he expects "difficult, but constructive" conversations.

Carney has said the meeting will mark the beginning of a larger economic and security agreement between Canada and the United States.
