Wisconsin and Minnesota Republicans call on Canada to curb wildfire smoke

Six Republican lawmakers have sent a letter to Canada's ambassador calling for action on the wildfires sending smoke billowing across the international border into their states.

In a Tuesday letter to Ambassador to the U.S. Kirsten Hillman, representatives Tom Tiffany, Brad Finstad, Tom Emmer, Michelle Fischbach, Glenn Grothman and Pete Stauber of Wisconsin and Minnesota said their constituents are coping with suffocating smoke from Canadian wildfires.

Fire ban to be issued on Thursday morning for northern area of Saskatchewan

From their latest update on Wednesday afternoon, the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency says that a fire ban will be issued at 8:00 am on Thursday, July 10, encompassing the area north of the provincial forest boundary, up to the Churchill River.   

The ban is being issued due to high fire activity and extreme fire risk.  

From Prairie Roads to the Big Screen: Dan Torwalt's old Rambler set to appear in an upcoming movie

It’s not a DeLorean, but a car formerly owned by Humboldt resident Dan Torwalt will be travelling back in time on the big screen.  

His old Rambler will soon be appearing in the movie “November 1963”, which is currently filming in Winnipeg. The movie focuses on the Kennedy assassination and the crime groups involved. 

Torwalt said he originally bought the car back in 2007 in a real estate listing transaction.  

Athletics power past 15U AAA Dodgers 9-4

The East Central 15U AAA Dodgers were defeated by the Regina Athletics 9-4 in a game held in Watrous on Tuesday night.  

Regina jumped out to an early advantage, scoring five runs through the first three innings.  

The Dodgers responded with a run in the bottom of the fourth before the Athletics extended their advantage to 9-1 before East Central added three runs in their final at-bat.  

An intercontinental connection grows in softball for New Zealand and the Rosebud Royals

A unique blend of local tradition and international connection was on full display this week as the Rosebud Royals hosted the International Softball Academy from Auckland, New Zealand at the North Shore diamond near Fishing Lake. The event marked the third time the Royals have welcomed the academy, reflecting the deepening ties between the two softball communities. 

Darin Faubert, a key organizer and coach with the Royals, shared the backstory behind the longstanding partnership.

68 wildfires remain active according to SPSA

As of 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8, the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) has reported 68 active wildfires across the province. The agency’s latest update categorizes seven fires as contained, 15 as not contained, 30 as undergoing assessment, and 16 as involving protection of critical values such as communities, infrastructure, or resources.
