Beavers split games on weekend
The Weyburn Beavers split their games on the weekend, picking up a win over the rival Regina Red Sox Saturday afternoon, before dropping a game against the Moose Jaw Miller Express Sunday.
Beavers Sports Dinner a home run
Friday night, the Weyburn Beavers hosted their annual Sports Dinner, in person for the first time since the pandemic, at the Weyburn Curling Rink. The crowd came out to hear from legendary Toronto Blue Jays manager John Gibbons.
Gibbons told stories from his time as a player, starting with his draft year in 1980, to winning the World Series with the New York Mets in 1986. Those in attendance found out about his reaction to The Bat Flip (spoiler: he didn't actually see it), as well as who he thought some of the most talented players he has ever coached were.
Beavers come up short in final inning against Medicine Hat
The Weyburn Beavers rallied in the ninth inning, loading the bases with no outs in their game against the Medicine Hat Mavericks while down by four. However, strong pitching from Dylan Weaver, who was credited with the save, would hold off Weyburn, giving the Mavericks a 6-4 win.
Pitching and defense was a key part of the game, with Mavericks starter Dylan Esquival going six innings striking out 10 while allowing two earned runs and walking three. Weyburn's starter, Ethan Webster, would go six innings himself while allowing three earned runs and striking out three.
Beavers dammed up by Mavericks at home
The Weyburn Beavers would take an early lead in their game against the visiting Medicine Hat Mavericks Tuesday night. The Mavericks, though, had different plans for the second half of the game, going on to a 13-7 win over Weyburn for their first win of the young WCBL season.
The Beavers would jump off to a lead with their first batter of the night. Ryan Dauphinee took a full-count pitch and sent it over the fence in left field, giving Weyburn a 1-0 lead.
Gibbons looking forward to trip to Weyburn
The Weyburn Beavers will be holding their sports dinner Friday night, and this year, the guest speaker will be John Gibbons, the former manager of the Toronto Blue Jays, and self-described baseball lifer. Gibbons had been the guest for the sports dinner previously in 2020 when it was held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This time, he will be making the trip to Weyburn to make his appearance in person.
Beavers split home-and-home
The Weyburn Beavers were looking to bounce back after their opening-day loss as they opened up a home-and-home with the Moose Jaw Miller Express at Tom Laing Park Friday evening. A solid night of pitching from Owen McConnell, Brett Paterson and Jacob Clark powered the Beavers to a 3-2 victory. Paterson would be credited with the win, and Clark the save.
Offensively, the Beavers were led at the dish by Ryan Muizelaar and Trent Lawson, who had two hits each in the win. Muizelaar also picked up a stolen base. Ryan McCarthy helped things along with a double as well.

The Beavers were looking to start off the season with a win in front of the home crowd. However, three errors and a rough 8th inning would lead the Red Sox to a 9-1 victory in the first game of the season.
