Beavers hold off charging Bulls
The Weyburn Beavers got back into the win column Saturday night, as they held off the Lethbridge Bulls for a 10-7 victory.
Nolan Machibroda hit his league-leading sixth home run of the season and added four RBIs to take the league lead in that category, in the win. Also driving in runs for the Beavers in the victory were Caelan Dalman, Koby Kropf, Ryan Dauphinee and Matthew Armendariz.
Beavers unable to rally back late in Lethbridge
The Weyburn Beavers dropped their ninth game in a row Friday night, as they continued their road trip in Lethbridge. The Beavers would have a 7-6 lead after the fourth inning, but then the Bulls rallied to take the lead and held on for a 14-12 victory.
Beavers continue road trip in Alberta
A rough night for the Weyburn Beavers as they continued their Alberta road swing Wednesday. The Beavers would give up six runs in the eighth inning, falling 13-3 to the Okotoks Dawgs. The loss is the seventh in a row for the Beavers, who are now 7-22 on the season and are four games out of a playoff spot at the halfway point of the season.
Beavers come up just short against Mavericks
After a rough start to the night, the Weyburn Beavers settled in and battled back against the Medicine Hat Mavericks. However, a called strike, that most fans at Tom Laing Park thought should have been called a ball, with the bases loaded ended the comeback attempt, as the Mavericks won 6-5.
Beavers play two road games, in two cities, in one day
The Weyburn Beavers would find themselves on the road for a pair of games Friday, but not against the same team, or even in the same city. The first game would be a matinee affair in Regina, against the Red Sox. After those nine innings were done, the Beavers hopped on the bus and headed to Moose Jaw to take on the Miller Express in an evening game.
The quirk of the schedule, however, did not favour the Beavers. They would end up losing both of the games in a rather decisive fashion.
Beavers stumble in extra innings
The Weyburn Beavers collected 19 hits, eight doubles, 11 RBI and 14 runs, but it wasn’t enough to outlast the Swift Current 57s Thursday night. In a 12-inning marathon game, the 57s would come away with a 15-14 victory.
The pitching staff for the Beavers combined for 15 strikeouts and 10 walks over the course of the game, with all 15 runs allowed being earned.
Beavers spend night damming up Moose Jaw bullpen
Jared Miller threw 6 1/3 innings of no-hit baseball, and Blaine French hit a three-run blast in the second inning, as the Weyburn Beavers bounced back from Tuesday’s loss with a 9-3 win over the Moose Jaw Miller Express Wednesday night.
The bats for the beavers kept the bullpen of the Miller Express busy as well, as they would go through five pitchers, who combined for 12 hits and ten walks in the game, and only two of those pitchers lasted longer than two innings.
Beavers have tough weekend in Medicine Hat
It was a rough weekend for the Weyburn Beavers as they had their first road trip of the season. They were in Medicine Hat for a pair of games and came out on the short end of the scoreboard in both match-ups. Saturday, they fell 10-2, while Sunday was a 14-6 loss.
In the game Saturday, the Mavericks would put up nine runs in the middle three innings, then held off the Beavers to preserve the victory. Weyburn was limited to just five hits in the loss.
Beavers shutout Red Sox at home
The Weyburn Beavers would get a complete game Friday night from pitcher Josh Wintroub, while the bats would ensure he had room to work. The effort worked, as the Beavers shut out the Regina Red Sox 7-0 at Tom Laing Park.
As hundreds of school kids packed the park for the annual School Night, Wintroub went to work on the mound, limiting Regina to just three hits all game. Those would be the only three base runners allowed, as he didn’t walk anyone either.
