Jeff Bereza, Portage la Prairie’s MLA, has been appointed deputy leader of Manitoba’s Progressive Conservative opposition under newly elected leader Obby Khan. The move signals a renewed focus on collaboration and disciplined governance within the party as it positions itself to challenge the NDP government. 

This July marks a major milestone for Portage Toyota as it celebrates 45 years as a Toyota Canada dealership – a journey that began with one family's vision and continues today with an ongoing commitment to customer care, innovation, and community.

The business was founded in 1973 as Portage Leisure & Truck Centre by Dennis and Kathy Thompson, Erwin and Katherine Thompson, and George and Wanda Ryder. In 1980, Dennis acquired the Toyota franchise, and the business began its Toyota journey.

Brendan Schaan, human resources manager at Meseyton Construction, says the company launched an ambitious slate of projects across Manitoba this spring despite lingering road restrictions. Crews broke ground on sites in Brandon, Winnipeg, and the Lord Winkler area, with additional work in the Parkland and Pembina Valley regions.

The Portage Youth Hub has been steadily growing since opening its doors almost six months ago. The free programming and drop-in supports are designed to meet the needs of youth aged 15 to 29. 

Programs run throughout the week 

The hub offers activities Tuesday to Saturday, both at its main site and off-site locations. On Thursdays, programming takes place at Red River College, including access to tools like 3D printers, an industrial sewing machine and a Cricut machine. 

A controversial goal early in the third period proved to be the turning point Sunday afternoon as the Dallas Stars defeated the Winnipeg Jets 5–2 in Game 3 of their second-round series.

With the score tied 2–2, Dallas defenceman Alexander Petrovic appeared to direct the puck into the net with a kicking motion just 3:51 into the period.

Grade 3 students at Crescentview School in Portage la Prairie recently participated in a community cleanup. Under the guidance of teacher Allana Boschman, the students took to Henderson Drive to collect litter and learn about environmental responsibility. 

For several years, the school has organized the annual cleanup event, which coincides with Earth Day and teaches students the value of environmental responsibility. 

Portage la Prairie residents Darius Stevens, Jayda Yakielashek, and Brett Clark will be turning heads at Winnipeg’s Van Dijk Classic bodybuilding competition coming soon. The trio, who train together at Portage Fitness Co-op, bring a mix of rookie enthusiasm and seasoned experience to the stage.

For Stevens, a first-time competitor, the event marks the culmination of six months of gruelling preparation and a journey of self-discovery.

The federal government expects to spend about $7 million this fiscal year to store and maintain four custom-made, portable hospitals that cost taxpayers more than $200 million to buy — facilities meant to bolster overwhelmed hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic that were barely used.

Early on in the pandemic, as the federal government moved at breakneck speed to respond to a global health crisis, it issued rush orders for these Mobile Health Units.

As we celebrate Mother's Day today, students across the Portage la Prairie School Division are taking time to reflect on the love, care, and support their moms give them every day. From heartfelt tributes to lighthearted moments, students from various grades at Crescentview School (CVS), Yellowquill School (YQS), and La Verendrye School (LVS) shared what makes their mothers truly special.

For many children, it's the little everyday things that mean the most.
