Teresa Soos of Amaranth passed away on April 20, 2025 in Gladstone, Manitoba at the age of 91.
Funeral Service will take place on April 25, 2025 1:00 PM at Our Lady of the Angels Church in Amaranth, MB.
Interment will follow at St. Emeric's Cemetery, with a gathering for lunch afterward at Langruth Community Hall.
Prayer Service will take place on April 24, 2025 at 7pm at Clarkes Funeral Home Chapel in Gladstone.

'I won't be the last': Tréchelle Bunn elected as first female chief of Dakota nation
Tréchelle Bunn has had a whirlwind month.
She wrapped up her two-year tenure as one of the Southern Chiefs' Organization youth chiefs, finished her second year of law school at the University of Manitoba and received an Indspire award for her work in Indigenous communities at a ceremony in Vancouver.
Then an election held the day Bunn returned to Manitoba from B.C. put the young woman in the history books.
LVS receives funding from Rotary for book cart to share free reads
La Verendrye School students are flipping through a new chapter in community literacy after receiving a $1,000 cheque yesterday morning from the Portage Rotary Club to fund a mobile book cart.
The cart, stocked with free books for students and families to keep, culminates a months-long effort by Grade 2 students to promote generosity and reading access—a project born from classroom discussions and brought to life with Rotary’s support.

Portage’s Andrew Cherkas walking 500 kilometres in support of mental health
A Portage la Prairie resident is gearing up to take some very meaningful steps all across the province.
Andrew Cherkas, a former Winnipeg firefighter and current Aircraft Rescue Firefighter at Canadian Base Operators at Southport, is organizing a walk called Stepping in Support for 1977. His mission: raise awareness and funds for firefighter mental health services across the province. Cherkas said the idea came to him on a walk of all places.

Poilievre was in Toronto Monday afternoon speaking to an audience with CARP, the Canadian Association of Retired Persons. He was asked whether he would put any taxes on equity saved in Canadians' homes.

Ken passed away peacefully on April 20, 2025 in Portage la Prairie. Ken is survived by his daughters, Leslie-Anne Hornberger (Barry), and Bobbi-Jo Gauld (Stuart), as well as his sister Bernice Kaleka (Ken), his brother-in-law Evan Smith (Margaret), and many cherished nephews and nieces. Ken was predeceased by his parents Les and Edith Holland, his brother Billy and his beloved wife of fifty years, Jeanne, who passed in 2011.
Portage la Prairie auditor nominated for global award, could visit Amsterdam
Cassidy Hockin, an audit professional from Portage la Prairie, has been named a finalist for a global audit award and could soon be on her way to Amsterdam for the final selection.
Hockin, who works for Meyers Norris Penny (MNP), said she was completely caught off guard when she learned about the nomination.
“I got an email on April 1st, of all days, saying that I had been nominated for the Audit MVP Award by someone in our firm,” says Hockin. “Since it was April 1st, I actually thought it was a joke and didn’t believe it. I was asking around wondering who nominated me.”
