With hundreds of thousands of kilometres of highway in Manitoba and a relatively small population base, keeping them all in good shape is quite the task.

Most people who travel Manitoba highways on a regular basis have a story of a bent rim or flat tire because of highway conditions and each year, CAA highlights some of the roughest with their worst roads competition.

Communities in the province have the same issue each year with potholes showing up out of the blue on a regular basis and heaving being the norm on some streets due to the spring thaw.

Last month, Canadian canola producers were hit with retaliatory tariffs from China, with 100% tariffs affecting exports of canola oil and meal. As Canada exports 90% of its canola production, the stakes are high for our approximately 40,000 canola producers.

The Conservatives and NDP spent the weekend hunting votes in British Columbia — a key late-campaign battleground that one pollster says may offer Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre his best shot at victory.

Both Poilievre and NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh addressed Canadians' cost-of-living concerns at campaign events in B.C. on Sunday.

Singh was asked if he was advocating strategic voting to shore up the party's flagging support against possible Conservative inroads in the region.

The Vatican says the pontiff died Monday at age 88.

Francis was the global leader of Canada's most popular organized religion. Nearly 11 million Canadians identified as Catholic in the 2021 census, second only to those without a religious affiliation.

Koko Platz Community Rec Centre nears completion

 The long-anticipated Koko Platz Community Rec Centre is nearing completion and excitement is building among both organizers and community members.

"We're starting to see some great progress," said Tanner Waldvogel, one of the directors for the KoKo Platz Community Club.

"They're starting to get some drywall up inside… it's starting to actually look like the hall we envisioned."

With just a few more months to go, the newly renovated space is nearly ready to open its doors to the public.
