Weather shifts coming and Halloween forecast uncertain

Portage la Prairie is expected to experience a change in weather patterns for the remainder of the work week.

Christy Climenhaga, an Environment and Climate Change Canada scientist notes that Portage was well above seasonal temperatures on Monday. However, this warm spell will not last.

"Moving through the rest of the week, we expect a big pattern change, so temperatures are closer to that seasonal value. You know, 9, 10 or 11 degrees for daily highs for the next few days. It will feel a little more like fall."

Jack Eugene Solomon passed away at the age of 91 years on October 11, 2024, at Riverview Health Centre, Winnipeg.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 67 years, Joan (nee Fitzsimmons); and his devoted daughter, Sally. He is also survived by sisters Sonia (Mike) Lewadniuk and Shirley (Garnet) Love, and many nieces and nephews.

RCMP arrest three from Ebb and Flow First Nation for possession charges

A small amount of cocaine was taken off the streets, thanks to a traffic stop in Dauphin.

On October 18, at about 4:00 p.m., officers with the Dauphin RCMP Detachment conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle located on Main Street in Dauphin. 

An officer approached the vehicle and spoke with the driver, identified as a 34-year-old man from Ebb and Flow First Nation. 

MRI Open House hopes to bring more attention to the issue

Portage la Prairie MLA Jeff Bereza is leading the effort to bring an MRI machine to the soon-to-be-completed Portage and District General Hospital, with hopes that the community will come together and make their voices heard.

In response to the growing number of Manitobans on the waiting list for MRI scans, currently at 24,000, Bereza is hosting a town hall meeting this Tuesday to address the issue head-on.

The push for an MRI began earlier this year when local doctors reached out to Bereza, highlighting the gap in diagnostic care that residents face. 

Woman refuses to leave vehicle, nabbed by RCMP during escape attempt

A woman from Brandon got more than she paid for after refusing to leave a rideshare service.

According to a Central Plains RCMP Weekly Report, on October 12 at 4:23 p.m., Portage la Prairie RCMP received multiple dropped 911 calls from somewhere on 20th Street SW. When they arrived, the vehicle was located in the middle of a parking lot.

B.C. election recounts triggered in two ridings, delaying result for a week

British Columbia's redrawn political landscape won't be settled for about a week, with manual recounts triggered in two key ridings after a nail-biting provincial election that has yet to produce a clear winner.

Elections BC said Sunday the recounts will take place from Oct. 26 to 28 in Juan de Fuca-Malahat and Surrey City Centre, where NDP candidates lead B.C. Conservatives by fewer than 100 votes.

RCMP investigate homicide following fatal shooting on Sandy Bay Ojibway First Nation

A 30-year-old man is dead following a shooting on the Sandy Bay Ojibway First Nation Friday night.

According to a RCMP press release, a call came in at 11:25 p.m. of shots being fired at a residence on the First Nation. Officers from the Sandy Bay Detachment of the Manitoba First Nation Police Service (MFNPS) responded to the and when officers arrived, they located the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
