Manitoba boy Ben Onyshko signs with Goldeyes

The Winnipeg Goldeyes announced Friday that the club has signed left-handed pitcher and Winnipeg native Ben Onyshko.
 
The 27-year-old was chosen by the Seattle Mariners in the 24th round of the 2018 Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft out of Stetson University (DeLand, Florida).

Onyshko reached the Class-AAA level in the Mariners’ chain with the Tacoma Rainiers of Triple-A West in 2021. He spent the last two-plus seasons with the Class-AA Texas League’s Arkansas Travelers.
 

Cougars avoid sweep with win over Goldeyes

The Kane County Cougars (17-14) defeated the Winnipeg Goldeyes 5-2 at Northwestern Medicine Field Wednesday afternoon, snapping Winnipeg’s win streak at four games.

Kane County opened the scoring in the bottom of the third inning on second baseman Jared Cushing’s solo home run down the left field line.

The Cougars doubled their lead in the fifth when shortstop Harrison Smith led off the inning with a home run just inside the left field foul pole that made the score 2-0.

Goldeyes' Matulovich Named Pitcher of the Week

The Winnipeg Goldeyes announced Monday that right-handed starter Joey Matulovich has been named American Association Pitcher of the Week for the period ending June 9.
 
Matulovich won both his starts last week, allowing just one earned run in the process. A 7-2 victory over Kane County at Blue Cross Park June 3 was followed up with a spectacular complete game, 14-strikeout performance in an 8-1 triumph over the Milwaukee Milkmen in Franklin, Wisconsin Sunday afternoon.

Goldeyes win series behind Matulovich's gem

The Winnipeg Goldeyes (14-14) defeated the Milwaukee Milkmen 8-1 at Franklin Field Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Goldeyes took their fifth series out of the past six and evened their record at .500 for the first time this season.

Joey Matulovich (W, 4-0) went the distance for Winnipeg and struck out 14 – the most of any pitcher in the American Association this season. The right-hander allowed one run on just six hits. He lowered his earned run average to a stingy 2.03.

Goldeyes fall to Kane County in pitchers' duel

The Kane County Cougars (15-9) defeated the Winnipeg Goldeyes 1-0 at Blue Cross Park Tuesday evening.

Box Score

Winnipeg (11-13) starter Landen Bourassa (L, 1-2) took a no-hitter into the seventh inning when he gave up a lead off home run to Kane County left fielder Je’Von Ward.

Bourassa went the distance, surrendering just two hits while striking out eight.

Cougars’ starter Nick Belzer (W, 3-0) worked eight innings during which he allowed just four hits.
