Lambert Mathias Friedrich 1938-2023

It is with great sadness and broken hearts that the family wishes to announce the passing of Lambert Friedrich at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Estevan, SK on Sunday, January 1, 2023 at the age of 84 years.

Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held in May, 2023.

Ice goalie takes top honours for week in WHL

Winnipeg Ice goaltender Daniel Hauser was named the Western Hockey League's goaltender of the week after an impressive two games last week, which included one shutout.

Hauser posted a 1-1-0-0 record across two starts last week to go along with a 1.01 goals-against average, .957 save percentage and one shutout. 

The product of Chestermere, Alta. began his week by turning aside 21 shots Wednesday, December 28 as his ICE dropped a 3-1 road decision versus the Moose Jaw Warriors. 

'Serious assault' on 6-year-old results in charges

A 25-year-old Manitoba man remains in police custody after being arrested in relation to what RCMP are calling a serious assault on a child that went unreported for days.

On December 31, 2022, Dauphin RCMP responded to a report of a serious assault on a 6-year-old child. It was reported that the assault occurred days earlier but had not yet been reported to police.

The child was taken to hospital with serious injuries. Further investigation led officers to identify a suspect and he was arrested on January 2, 2023.

RCMP use 'snowbulances' to rescue woman in northern Manitoba

An 81-year-old woman in medical distress was rescued from a remote trapper's cabin in northern Manitoba on New Year's Eve thanks to Mounties on specially equipped snowmobiles.

According to the Manitoba RCMP, officers from The Pas RCMP were contacted at 5:20 p.m. and received a report of an 81-year-old female needing emergency medical assistance. The female was in a remote trappers cabin, only accessible by snowmobile, approximately 48 kilometres south of The Pas.

No injuries after Roblin Blvd. house fire

A house under construction suffered moderate damage but no injuries were reported after a fire Tuesday evening.

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) was called just after 7 p.m. to reports of a fire in a single-storey house in the 5700 block of Roblin Boulevard.

The City of Winnipeg says in a release that when crews arrived they saw heavy smoke coming from the house. Firefighters attacked from the outside until it was safe enough to enter the house.

The fire was declared under control at 7:59 p.m.

Near-zero visibility in fog Wednesday morning

Thick fog has settled over much of south-central Manitoba and is expected to hang around for a while, causing Environment Canada to issue a fog advisory.

From Environment Canada:

Dense fog banks have been reported throughout the Red River Valley, into the Interlake, and in southeastern Manitoba. The fog will persist for the remainder of the night well into the day Wednesday.

Visibility may be significantly and suddenly reduced to near zero.

No calls on Christmas Day in latest report from Rosetown RCMP

The latest update from the Rosetown RCMP detachment is in from the week of December 23rd to the 29th.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police out of Rosetown received a report of uttering threats last week. Back on Tuesday, December 23rd they arrested and charged a 23 year old female with uttering threats and released her for an upcoming court appearance.

On Christmas eve they were in Elrose looking for an erratic driver. They were unable to locate the vehicle.
