Major announcement to be made at Route 22 Artist Gallery celebration

Route 22 Artist Collective Gallery is marking five years of building community through the arts with a special celebration on Saturday, June 14, and will be making a major announcement of future initiatives.

The public is invited to its grand opening and 5th anniversary drop-in event from 3 to 8 p.m., featuring live music, food and refreshments, an artist meet-and-greet, and a special unveiling of new exhibitions that highlight the talent and diversity of the local arts community.

Cochrane issues fire restriction amid high fire danger

A fire restriction has been issued for Cochrane due to forecasted hot, windy weather and dry grass conditions.

Cochrane Fire Services says the fire danger is high and outdoor fires can start and spread rapidly under current conditions.

CN deploying Poseidon and Trident to help fight the wildfires

The ongoing wildfire situation stretches from northern Ontario right across the prairies, with the threat to homes and communities and thousands of people being evacuated.

The Assistant Vice-President of Grain for CN, David Przednowek, says they are monitoring the situation very closely as their rail lines run through the north.

CN reports they've had some delays moving grain in and out of the Port at Thunder Bay but are also doing what they can to help with the wildfires.

Mueller heading to Calder Cup championship series

The Abbotsford Canucks knocked off the Texas Stars in dramatic fashion last night to advance to the Calder Cup championship series.

Trailing 2–0 midway through the game, the Canucks stormed back with four unanswered goals—including an empty-netter—to capture the AHL Western Conference title.

Abbotsford took the series in six games. The Stars forced a return to B.C. with a 2–1 overtime win on June 5.

It marks the first time the Vancouver Canucks’ affiliate has reached the league final.
