Avalanche Canada warns of elevated avalanche risk amid spring warm-up
Avalanche Canada is urging backcountry users to take extra caution as warm spring weather increases the risk of dangerous avalanches across the region.
A large portion of Kananaskis Country remains under a considerable avalanche risk rating, with several mountains and trails currently closed to the public. The area is expected to see double-digit temperatures and sunny skies this weekend, conditions that could trigger another avalanche cycle, including large and destructive slides.
Cochrane rallies to help Crossfield win Hockeyville
Today’s the day for Cochrane residents to rally behind a local neighbour, Crossfield is in the final stretch for Kraft Hockeyville 2025.
Voting is now open, and Crossfield is competing for a $250,000 upgrade to the Pete Knight Arena. The winning community will also get to host an NHL pre-season game, a huge opportunity to shine on a national stage.

Average detached home prices hit new high in Cochrane
Home sales in Cochrane remained steady in March compared to last year, according to the Calgary Real Estate Board (CREB). Activity for the first quarter was slightly higher than in 2024 and remained well above long-term averages.

CCGA's Advance Payments Program issues $310 million in cash advances first day

Man charged in alleged $1.5M fraudulent RV lot scheme near Sundre
A Chestermere man is facing fraud charges after allegedly selling dozens of recreational vehicle lots at an undeveloped campground near Sundre, AB, in a scheme that police say defrauded victims of approximately $1.5 million.
Between August 2017 and September 2020, police say 26 people purchased long-term lease lots ranging in price from $39,900 to $69,900 — with some also purchasing a lot and cottage package for $169,000 — in a planned RV park marketed under Clearwater Cottages Ltd.

Speeding remains one of the most common traffic violations in the province. Last year, Alberta RCMP issued 48,600 speeding tickets in RCMP jurisdictions, with 4,283 violations in April alone. In addition, more than 9,400 charges were laid for aggressive and dangerous driving.
