July rainfall in Cochrane almost twice the normal amount
It’s been a much wetter than normal July in Cochrane, and it’s not over yet.
Christy Climenhaga, a scientist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, says the Calgary region has already seen well over 100 millimetres of rain this month.
“Depending on where you are in proximity to the foothills, it’s a little bit more, a little bit less,” she says. “But we're already well above what's considered normal for July.”

Cookie sales puts smiles on people using food bank
Thousands of smiles were created during the week-long Smile Cookie campaign at local Tim Hortons restaurants.
A record $24,352.94 was raised through the sale of tens of thousands of cookies decorated during the recent campaign.
“The support that we get from the community is tremendous,” said Nancy Etcheverry, owner of all three Cochrane locations.
Senft to step down as CEO of Seeds Canada
The founding CEO of the five-year-old organization will stay on until January 2026
Seeds Canada is looking for a new chief executive officer after Barry Senft announced he is stepping down from the role he’s held for about four years.
Senft will continue to serve as CEO until the end of January 2026.
“I think after five years, it’s time for new leadership,” he said during the 2025 Seeds Canada conference in Quebec City.
He said someone with more seeds experience would make sense now that the organization is up and running.

Cochrane RCMP are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a missing mother and daughter last seen in the community on July 12.
Thirty-year-old Ashley Bartley and her four-year-old daughter, Marlie Myers, may be travelling in a white 2021 Chevrolet Spark with Alberta licence plate CWH 6991. They are also believed to be linked to a brown Chevrolet Silverado with Alberta plate CTK 2994.
