After long battle, Fedeyko to finally serve as deputy mayor
Marni Fedeyko is preparing to take the chair as Cochrane’s deputy mayor on June 26, ending a long debate over whether she would be allowed to serve after sanctions were placed on her by town council in May 2024.
Her opportunity to fill in for the mayor isn’t the result of any decision by her fellow councillors. It came after Bill 50 received Royal Assent on May 15, effectively stripping municipalities of the authority to enforce local Code of Conduct bylaws.

World-class horse vaulting athlete Daniel Klotz-Dedora is preparing to depart for Austria ahead of his third appearance as a member of Team Canada at the FEI Junior Vaulting World Championship.

Cochrane football players named to three Alberta teams
Cochrane football players will suit up for three Alberta teams this summer following an extensive selection process by Football Alberta.
Cochrane Cobra Tyler Clazie has been named to the receiving corps of Alberta’s U18 squad for the Football Canada Cup. Fellow Cobra Evan Samoleski also made the team as a defensive back but is sidelined by injury.
Three other Cobras were in the running after advancing to the Top 100 camp held in Red Deer in May.
Cochrane to unveil strategic land acquisition today
The Town of Cochrane is preparing to unveil details of a significant strategic land acquisition during a press conference this afternoon.
Mayor Jeff Genung is scheduled to speak at The Station at 3 p.m. to outline how the land deal will support Cochrane’s future growth and development.
The town says the acquisition is a key component of its long-term planning strategy.
The announcement will be live-streamed on the town’s website and official social media channels.
Alberta Next panel announced with legislature members, academics and business leaders
Premier Danielle Smith says she'll be spending the summer touring the province with business leaders, backbenchers and an academic to find ways to protect Alberta from what she calls federal mistreatment and overreach.
She says Ottawa is to blame for decades of lost investment and resource revenue and that Alberta can't be held back any longer.
The premier is to lead the Alberta Next panel, which also includes three United Conservative Party legislature members, Environment Minister Rebecca Schulz, a retired judge and a physician.
Meat producers warn internal trade bill could cause blowback with trade partners
The Canadian Meat Council is warning that the Liberal government’s legislation to ease the movement of goods and services within Canada could actually undermine red meat exports.
Lauren Martin, senior director of public affairs for the organization, says the bill is raising questions about whether it could lead the federal government to recognize provincial rules for inspecting meat processing facilities as equal to federal standards.
Canucks rally to win Calder Cup, cap historic playoff run
The Florida Panthers may have hoisted the Stanley Cup, but their farm team won’t be getting their hands on the Calder Cup.
The Abbotsford Canucks erased a two-goal deficit to beat the Charlotte Checkers 3–2 on the road last night, wrapping up the AHL championship series in six games.
It marks the first Calder Cup title for the Vancouver Canucks' affiliate. Meanwhile, the Checkers are still chasing their second title since winning in 2019.

Ron and the team at Cochrane Computers were powered up after receiving a surprise McCafé Coffee Break on Tuesday morning.
CochraneNow and Cochrane McDonald’s stopped by with all the bells and whistles, treating the team to McCafé coffee and cookies to kick off their day.
