Winkler Barracudas host annual swim meet
Sunday morning swim teams from across Manitoba gathered at the Winkler Aquatic Centre for the Winkler Barracuda hosted a swim meet, featuring a variety of events and heats for swimmers of all ages to compete and showcase their abilities.
Winkler Barracuda parent organizer Rhonda Rempel described the day.
"Today we hosted about 95 swimmers from all over southern Manitoba and we had our second meet of the season. It was a great event."
She explained why a day like this is important for kids.
Morden Community Handivan dedicates new vehicle to founder
Morden Community Handivan (MCH) Board Chair Brian Nedohin was proud to dedicate the new 10 passenger, accessible vehicle now in use to service Morden and surrounding communities to a founding member of the service back in 1984, Wilf Warkentin. On Tuesday, board members, executive director and driver of the van met at Morden Park to dedicate the new vehicle to Warkentin, who passed away in February of this year. The new vehicle services areas beyond Morden, including Manitou, RM of Stanley and Winkler.
Morden Police Chief gives summer safety for e-scooters and pedestrians
Morden City Council approved a new four way stop on Stephen Street in Morden. Last month, a four-way stop was created at the 7th and Stephen Street intersection.
Morden Police Service (MPS) Chief Brad Neduzak they have been getting feedback about the decision.

Morden's Glenda Schwarz has been a chaplain with the Billy Graham Rapid Response Team (BG-RRT) since 2009. She has just arrived back from serving in the community of Dauphin, following the horrific bus crash on Hwy 5 and 1 June 15th, which claimed the lives of 16 people and injured 9 more.
A record year for Regional Connections makes a big impact on newcomer settlement
Regional Connections (RC) gathered last week for the Annual General Meeting sharing reports from the various areas of support provided by the non-profit settlement services organization with offices in Altona, Winkler, Morden and Dauphin.
In the past, 1000-1200 new clients were considered a high number, but Executive Director noted, last year, the number was around 1900 across the organization.
City of Morden closes 7th Street temporarily today
According to the City of Morden social media page, part of 7th Street will be closed to remove a sign from Thornview Grocery today. The gas station and convenience store is located on the corner of 7th Street and Thornhill Street.
The closure will be from noon to approximately 4pm today to ensure everyone's safety.
The city apologized for any inconvenience caused by this and is grateful for the community's patience and cooperation.
Water usage is up in Morden, residents asked to conserve
While there is no threat of a drought at Lake Minnewasta, the City of Morden has put out a call for residents to find ways to reduce their water usage.
Director of Operations Tim Reimer explained.
National Indigenous Peoples Day celebrated in Morden
National Indigenous Peoples Day was celebrated in the Morden Park Bowl Saturday afternoon put on by the Pembina Valley Truth and Action Working Group (TAWG). With guest speakers sharing information on the past, present and future of indigenous people in Canada, traditional drumming and dancing with regalia adorned dancers from Roseau River First Nation, celebrated Indigenous culture.
TAWG Committee Member Courtney Yeo-Thiessen shared her feelings about the day.
Two families given keys to a place to call their own
Habitat For Humanity Morden-Winkler (H4HMW) Chapter handed over the keys to two families Saturday morning in Morden, giving thanks to the City of Morden, Habitat for Humanity, community sponsors and all the volunteers for helping make this dream of building its first duplex, a reality.
