UPDATE: Man remains in critical condition after serious assault
UPDATE:
RCMP have charged a 33-year-old man from Long Plain First Nation in connection with a serious assault that occurred Friday night outside a home in Somerset.
Pembina Valley RCMP officers responded to the incident and found a 40-year-old man, from Portage la Prairie, with life-threatening injuries. He was transported to the hospital via STARS Air Ambulance, and as of yesterday, he remained there.

Portage-Lisgar MP does not trust Prime Minister's consumer carbon tax removal
The country is starting the week with a new political era underway in Ottawa, with Mark Carney sworn in as Canada’s new Prime Minister after the Liberal leadership race.

Final U.S. Red River forecast continues low risk of significant flooding
The U.S. National Weather Service out of Grand Forks has released its final Spring flood forecast for the Red River this year.
The risk for significant flooding remains low, running below long-term historical averages for the U.S. portion of the Red River Basin.
Isolated minor Spring flooding is possible for some locations, with the Red at Pembina indicated as having a 50% exceedance probability of reaching that level.

Stuartburn man arrested for impaired driving after crash near Dominion City
A 52-year-old man from Stuartburn has been arrested after a two-vehicle collision Saturday afternoon just east of Dominion City. The collision occurred on Provincial Road 201, near Road 15 East around 3p.m.
According to RCMP, a pickup truck and a SUV collided when the truck veered into the oncoming lane.
The driver of the pickup truck, the 52-year-old male, was arrested on scene for Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Bodily Harm. He was taken back to the detachment where he provided breath samples which were three times the legal limit.
Charges pending against 17-year-old after school bus collision in R.M. of Lorne
Charges are pending against a 17-year-old male after a pick-up truck collided with a school bus transporting students Thursday morning in the R.M. of Lorne. The incident occurred at the intersection of two gravel roads northeast of Mariapolis, and just north of Highway 23 (Road 28 North and Road 66 West).
According to Pembina Valley RCMP, when they arrived on scene, they found the bus on its side in the southeast ditch of the intersection, along with the pick-up truck. Emergency Medical Responders and the local fire department also responded to the collision.
