Summer in September, how hot and windy was it Thursday?
It's been summer in September for the last few days, and Thursday was the hottest and windiest day so far this week.
Normals for the end of September are 17 degrees for daytime highs and 4 degrees overnight. Many locations were 12 to 15 degrees warmer than that yesterday.
Almost record setting and unusually warm on Wednesday, snow coming
Ample sunshine, warm southerly winds and upper-level ridging helped usher in a well-above-average airmass to Southern Manitoba yesterday, and even though it may not have been a record-breaking day in many locations, it was still unusually warm for this time of year. In Portage, the record high for December 6th was 8.9 Celcius set in 2015. The official high from yesterday will go in the books at 8.5.
-7 is the normal daytime high for December 6th, and some locations were more than 15 degrees above that. The following readings are courtesy of Environment Canada:
First flood update since melt begins, the Assiniboine should be fine but "Major flood risk" remains for the Red
With several consecutive days of warm temperatures, well above zero, the Spring snowmelt has begun and surface run-off has started in most southern Manitoba basins. As the melt continues, river flows and levels are expected to increase in the next three to five days and ice on Manitoba’s lakes, rivers and creeks will weaken.
