SaskPower announces bills to rise due to carbon tax rate increase
With the federal carbon tax applied to SaskPower’s carbon emissions increasing from $80 to $95 per tonne of CO2 equivalent emissions, SaskPower must increase the carbon tax amount collected on customer bills by a system-wide average of 2.9 per cent
The tax increase will take effect on January 1, 2025.
Each year, the federal carbon tax rate rider charged to SaskPower’s customers must be revised

City of Humboldt releases statement on 2025 Budget
The City of Humboldt has released a statement on the conclusion of its deliberations on the 2025 budget.
The release outlines how Mayor Rob Muench led Council and the administration through the year’s cost centres, taking into account key capital projects presented by administration.
Budget deliberations began with a proposed 5.5% increase in municipal taxes and a proposed 5.28% increase in utility rates.
Fall sitting of Sask. Legislature wraps up
An abbreviated fall sitting of the Saskatchewan Legislature came to an end on Tuesday.
Premier Scott Moe highlighted a couple of pieces that were passed, The Saskatchewan Affordability Act, which includes the largest personal income tax reduction since 2008 and The SaskEnergy Amendment Act which extends the carbon tax exemption on home heating.
Heartbreaking search for Jaxon: family offers reward for stolen dog’s safe return
A Watson family continues to search desperately for their black Labrador, Jaxon, who was inside their stolen vehicle, a dark blue 2007 Jeep Compass, taken from the Watson Co-op grocery store parking lot on November 26 at 2:15 p.m. The Jeep, with Saskatchewan license plate 343MWW, was last seen heading toward Melfort on back roads.
RCMP on the trail of electronics thief in Englefeld
A southside business in Englefeld was the victim of a robbery, and the Humboldt/Lanigan RCMP detachment is on the lookout for the perpetrator.
On June 5, 2024 Humboldt RCMP were notified that an individual entered a business on the southside of the community of Englefeld and stole an electronic device. Attached is an image of a subject of interest in this investigation.
Humboldt/Lanigan RCMP are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the subject of interest believed to be involved in this theft.
Carlton Trail College celebrates award winners for 2024
Forty-seven learners from throughout the Carlton Trail College system reaped the rewards of the College’s scholarship program and their own hard work.
The College hosted its annual student awards celebration on December 5, 2024 and distributed $73,400 in scholarships to those learners across nine skills-based programs.
RCMP seeking info on sports car theft near Pilger
In what appears to be a rash of car thefts, Humboldt RCMP is seeking information leading to the arrest of individuals responsible for stealing a sports car from a rural property northeast of Pilger.
On November 18, 2024, the Humboldt RCMP received a complaint that a theft of a car had occurred at a farm yard NE of Pilger, Saskatchewan. The occurrence happened between mid-September 2024 and Nov 18, 2024. The car, an Orange 1980 Pontiac Firebird Trans am Coupe, has been recovered, but police are still looking for those responsible for the theft.
▶️ Large crowd enjoys a wonderful evening for a tree lighting in Humboldt
Thursday night was the perfect weather for a tree lighting. Hundreds gathered in Civic Park, downtown Humboldt, for what’s become a much-anticipated seasonal event.
The community tree lighting drew the largest crowd since it’s return as an annual event several years ago. This year, the Civic Park Gazebo was lit up and the central point for much of the evening’s activity.
