28 motor vehicle collisions result from latest winter storm

Following the latest winter experience, road conditions have been less than ideal throughout the province. 

Saskatchewan RCMP said in a news release that between 12:00pm on Wednesday (Feb.5) and Thursday (Feb.6), they have received reports of 28 motor vehicle collisions. Also, during that timeframe, they received an additional 14 calls relating to other vehicle incidents including vehicles being stuck on roadways or in the ditch.  

HCAA Senior and Junior Pre-District Playdown results

Senior Curling pre-district playdowns took place on Tuesday in the HCAA with a pair of sites taking on hosting duties.

In Strasbourg, it was all Humboldt in boys curling with a best of three match ups and Humboldt Team Two taking a pair to sweep the competition and move on to districts. 

On the Girls side, Muenster and Imperial both downed Strasbourg teams to move on, and in mixed play Watrous downed Humboldt on the A side for a birth but Humboldt bounced back on the B side over Strasbourg to capture a District spot. Mixed doubles see Leroy and Cudworth move on. 

More morning mayhem on area roadways

Another 15 centimetres of snow combined with strong northerly winds have combined for tough sledding on area highways this morning. Highway 5 near Humboldt is snow covered and snow packed in places with heavy drifting, particularly in the westbound lane.

 
Sheltered areas and curves harbour the usual problem spots. Visibility continues to be reduced, particularly in traffic.

The Saskatchewan Highway hotline has travel not recommended postings for Highway 20 and Highway 16 from Saskatoon to Dafoe and along Highway 5 from the number 2 junction to Saskatoon.

Emergency service interruptions once again at Watrous Hospital

Saskatchewan Health Authority has announced a pair of consecutive service disruptions once again at the Watrous Hospital emergency department.  

On Wednesday, February 5 from 2:00 pm to February 6 at 8:00 am, emergency services will not be available at Watrous Hospital. 

Additionally, from February 7 at 4:00 pm to February 8 at 8:00 am, there will be no access to emergency services at the Hospital. 

ICYMI - City Council hosts Coffee with Council event at the Gallery.

Residents are invited to join the City's newly elected Councillors for a relaxed and informal evening of conversation at an upcoming Coffee with Council event. This is an opportunity for community members to meet their councillors, ask questions, share ideas - all over a cup of coffee.

The event takes place on Monday, February 3, 7:30 - 9:00 pm at the Humboldt and District Gallery. 

Quill Plains Premier League wraps up successful season

The finals of the Quill Plains Premier League took place in Wadena Wednesday night. The League winners were Team Northland Seeds Scott Comfort. The Comfort foursome defeated Delores Syrota 6-5 in the League Final.  The team included Scott Comfort, Randy Leitch, Kade Comfort, and Lee Johnson. At age 13 Kade Is the youngest ever winner of the league

The B winner was Colin Redman with a 6-2 win over Greg Harcourt

The C side winner was Jay Bindig defeating Keifer Prisiak 10-7.
