Family Fun Day provides a boost for SPCA

Humboldt and District SPCA teamed up with Humboldt Landscape and Leisure for a fundraiser to support operations and a new building at the pet shelter. A crowd packed the grounds of the business to enjoy the bouncy castles, horse and wagon rides, musical entertainment by Walter Bushman and much more. 

The SPCA fundraising component included a barbecue that went from late morning until 4 pm and a garage sale with an extensive layout of donated items. The efforts merged for a great Family Fun Day.  

Missoula Children's Theatre and King Arthur's Quest a hit with weekend audiences

King Arthur (Regan Widaiko), Sir Lancelot (Karsten Leonard), the court and the kingdom had their hands full with a series of trials in King Arthur’s Quest put on by Missoula Children’s Theatre on Saturday, September 16. The production featured young actors from a range of ages and locales in the region. It was the 10th performance hosted in the community by Arts Humboldt. The show was sponsored by BHP with the help of other local agencies. 

Broncos drop a close pair against Melfort to close out the pre-season

The Humboldt Broncos wrapped up the pre-season with the narrowest of losses against the Melfort Mustangs in a pair of hotly contested games.  

On Friday, the teams exchanged goals and penalty minutes to land on a 3-all tie at the end of regulation. Ty McKay connected with Spencer Hughes to open the Broncos scoring. The Broncos faced penalty woes throughout the evening, and the opening power play for Melfort resulted in a Chase Freidt-More one timer to score.  

Judge reserves decision for Broncos crash truck driver

A decision on the fate of the truck driver held responsible for the tragic Humboldt Broncos bus crash remains pending after a Federal court judge reserved his decision on Jaskirat Singh Sidhu’s deportation. 

In 2019, Sidhu was sentenced to eight years following his plea to dangerous driving causing death and bodily harm. The April 2018 crash resulted in the deaths of 16 people and injuries to 13 others. 

SaskEnergy announces gas flaring north of the Village of Semans

SaskEnergy will be conducting a controlled natural gas flaring at its TransGas block valve, approximately 0.5 km north of the Village of Semans, in the RM of Mount Hope. 

The flaring will take place between 9 - 10:00 am on Thursday, September 14, and is subject to change based on operating requirements. 

Residents and drivers in the area may see a 10-foot flame being emitted from the flare stack temporarily attached to SaskEnergy’s infrastructure. 

Humboldt RCMP searching for graffiti vandals

Humboldt RCMP is seeking information on acts on vandalism performed in the city's downtown. 

Sometime between 5 p.m. on September 11, 2023 and 8 a.m. on September 12, 2023, multiple businesses on the 600 block of 8th and 9th Street in Humboldt were tagged with graffiti.

Residents and drivers in the area may see a 40-foot flame being emitted from the flare stack temporarily attached to SaskEnergy’s infrastructure.

Mohawks football fired up in victory over Delisle

With summer holidays firmly in the rearview mirror, student athletes are back in action, including local football teams. The Humboldt Collegiate Mohawks took to the field on a warm and clear Friday afternoon for their first foray into the 9-aside season against the Delisle Rebels at Glen Hall Park. Every new season sees new faces on the gridiron, but with plenty of returning players to guide the rookies, the Mohawks took command of the game situation early and rolled through to a 53-34 win.
