That’s exactly the ambience the audience was treated to when Zachary Lucky and Richard Inman rolled into the Watson and District Museum on Sunday night.  

St. Peter's College celebrates Awards Day

Students, faculty, family and friends gathered at St. Peter’s College on Saturday morning for their annual Awards Celebration and Luncheon. This year new and returning students benefitted from the scholarship, awards and bursary program to the tune of over $100,000. The awards recognized not only academic merit, but excellence in many endeavours including commitment to community service.  

Province paves way for new Saskatchewan Polytechnic campus in Saskatoon

For years, Saskatchewan Polytechnic campuses have been composed of a central facility and satellite buildings for some of its programs throughout the cities they reside in. Now, the campus in Saskatoon will have all its programs housed in a brand new, centralized location. The Government of Saskatchewan announced a new, state of the art complex will be developed at Innovation Place on the University of Saskatchewan Main Campus. The two post-secondary institutions are entering into a partnership with the government, who is planning on a $200 million injection of funds.  

Destination Business Program set to launch in October

New courses for business owners are rolling out in Saskatchewan and Manitoba thanks to funding from the Rural Opportunity Fund (ROF). The Destination Business Program is designed to transform small businesses into thriving destinations, helping entrepreneurs discover their company’s unique qualities and enabling them to stand out in the marketplace. In Saskatchewan, Mid-Sask Community Futures is managing the program. Regional businesses can access Sagehill Community Futures for support in linking into the program.  

Humboldt Legion invites community to its Open House

September 17-23 has been designated National Legion Week, and the Humboldt Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion invites Humboldt and area residents to stop in for its Open House. The event will be held on Friday, September 22 and Saturday, September 23.  

The Open House includes tours of the Benson Hingley Military Museum from 5-7 pm on Saturday and 3-5 on Saturday. The award-winning museum features a wide array of wartime artifacts, and it houses scores of documents that retell the experiences of young men and women in battle.  

Big Brothers Big Sisters Month leads up to Hallowe'en Haunted House

September is Big Brothers Big Sisters month across the organization, and September 18 was Big Brothers Big Sisters Day. The month is an important time for the organization with students heading back to school and littles needing the support of a big mentor more than ever.  

There’s a big push for us in September to recruit mentors,” says local director Tammy Ruedig. “We do a big push for in school mentors this time of year because the school year has just started. We’d love to get you signed up and matched with a youth.” 

Today is Co-op Fuel Good Day

Today, Federated Co-op is hosting their Fuel Good Day.

Ten cents per liter of gas and diesel sold at the pumps will be donated to local community groups. 

“Midway Co-op's Fuel Good Day’s dollars this year will be going towards the community of Watson to the Santa Claus Day campaign, and in LeRoy, it will be going towards the Leroy Pre-school,” said Wayne Dale, manager of Midway Co-op. 

Humboldt Co-op will be donating the funds collected from Fuel Good Day towards the Humboldt Public School playground. 

Planned power outage on Wednesday for Watrous

SaskPower announces a planned power outage scheduled for Wednesday September 20th from 1:00pm to 5:00pm affecting customers in Watrous. Areas of the town affected will be the 100 Block 3rd Ave E (even #s), and the 100 Block of 4th Ave E (odd #s).

SaskPower appreciates customers understanding. The outage is necessary due to system maintenance.

Family Fun Day provides a boost for SPCA

Humboldt and District SPCA teamed up with Humboldt Landscape and Leisure for a fundraiser to support operations and a new building at the pet shelter. A crowd packed the grounds of the business to enjoy the bouncy castles, horse and wagon rides, musical entertainment by Walter Bushman and much more. 

The SPCA fundraising component included a barbecue that went from late morning until 4 pm and a garage sale with an extensive layout of donated items. The efforts merged for a great Family Fun Day.
