It’s no wonder Ryleigh Schellenberg is Providence University’s High School Athlete of the Month – volleyball, basketball, badminton, and track and field – she does it all!
Ryleigh currently attends Rosenort School, where she’s an outstanding member of the Rosenort Red Hawks volleyball, basketball, badminton, and track and field teams. She also plays for the 17U Providence Jr Pilots volleyball team, and plays beach volleyball in the summer to keep her skills sharp.
But it’s not just her athletic talent that makes her stand out.
“I love staying active and working towards getting better at the games I love, but it’s using sports as a way of connecting with others that makes it so incredible.”
It’s clear that Ryleigh enjoys the rush of the game, but her true passion for sports comes from the interactions with her teammates – and her opponents! For Ryleigh, the game itself comes second to her Christian values of encouraging everyone around her.
“I love to meet people, especially at tournaments,” she says. “The experience of good conversation and good sportsmanship gives me energy and leaves me full of joy.”
At the end of the day, she reflects, it’s just a game… but her good attitude and the relationships she forms on and off the court make the biggest impact.
“By cheering on everyone around me, I’m able to spread the light and honour my love for Jesus.”
Congratulations, Ryleigh!
