Five people (two adults and three youths) have been arrested during a warrant arrest on Long Plain First Nation Saturday afternoon.
Police say that members of the Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNPS) attended the 90 Block of Keesh Drive on the reserve. Officers had received information that Brent Houle, who was wanted on outstanding warrants, was possibly at this location.
When MFNPS officers arrived, Houle immediately fled on foot. When officers caught him a short distance away, Houle tried to disarm an MFNPS officer of his tazer. The RCMP was called for assistance and attended immediately.
While trying to arrest Houle, and throughout this whole incident, several of Houle’s relatives physically assaulted officers, obstructed justice, and tried to assist him in escaping lawful custody.
One relative repeatedly struck MFNPS officers with a jerry can filled with gasoline, which doused officers with gas. With the assistance of the RCMP, Houle and all the relatives were eventually arrested at the scene.
As a result, two RCMP officers and two MFNPS officers sustained injuries. All injured officers were taken to hospital and treated for their injuries.
