Details on Tuesday evening overpass crash in Swift Current

Two days ago, traffic came to a halt on the Second Avenue Southeast overpass after a vehicle collided with the guard rail. 

The Swift Current Municipal RCMP received a 911 hang-up call at 7:55 P.M. When they called the number back, a man answered, advising he had crashed on the overpass. 

The driver had no injuries from the crash, but their gray Kia Sorento was left undrivable. A tow Truck had to remove the vehicle. 

No other information has been released regarding this incident.

Canada-wide warrant issued for semi driver after fatal crash west of Altona

A Canada-wide warrant has been issued for a semi driver involved in a collision that claimed the life of a mother and daughter west of Altona last week. 

The two-vehicle crash happened on Nov. 15, shortly after 7 p.m. at the intersection of Provincial Road 201 and Provincial Road 306, about 13 kilometres west of Altona.

The RCMP says they believe the semi drive did not stop at a stop sign and struck the other vehicle.

Humboldt RCMP trying to locate suspect causing mischief

The Humboldt/Lanigan RCMP are seeking information about a suspect causing mischief in Humboldt. 

Between 7:00pm-8:00pm an individual was observed on a camera going through cars in the 700 block of 6th Street in Humboldt. No items were taken, but police are asking for assistance in identifying the suspect.

Province expands Trikafta access for Cystic Fibrosis patients

The provincial government announced Monday that more cystic fibrosis (CF) patients in Saskatchewan are now eligible for Trikafta, a medication that improves lung function.

The expanded coverage, which took effect on Nov. 15, now includes patients with one of 152 rare genetic mutations that respond to the drug. This change will cover most CF patients in the province.

The decision follows a Nov. 4 recommendation from the Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health, which called on jurisdictions to expand Trikafta coverage to include these rare genetic mutations.

Lacombe drivers can expect delays today

Motorists in Lacombe can expect traffic delays Thursday (Nov. 21) as Highway 12 is closed in both directions near the intersection with Highway 2A due to railway maintenance.

The closure is in effect from 8:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.

A local road detour is in place.

Man wanted by Swift Current RCMP nabbed in Alberta

A man wanted by Swift Current Municipal RCMP for multiple assault, robbery, and firearms charges has been arrested.

Nicholas Belanger was brought in by RCMP in Alberta on his outstanding warrant in the west-most prairie province on Nov. 19, 2024.

Since being brought back to Swift Current, the 35-year-old has appeared in Swift Current Provincial Court once already on Wednesday.

Swift Current Municipal RCMP notes that they are still looking to locate Matthew Neufeld. The 28-year-old is described as 5'8" and 145 lbs. He has brown hair and brown eyes.

Nearby county's site chosen for first provincial lithium facility

With Mountain View County's approval, E3 Lithium Ltd. has secured a location for its Clearwater Project. The County has granted E3 Lithium an option to acquire land at the former Dyck Gravel Pit, approximately 18 kilometres east of the County Office.

This land will serve as the site for E3 Lithium’s central processing facility, which is poised to be the first commercial lithium production facility in Western Canada.

Slippery roads still causing problems for drivers in the Central Plains

The first major storm event of the season may be done but slippery highways linger in the area. Numerous reports continue to come in this morning about vehicles sliding into the ditch.

Motorists taking the bypass at the east of Portage la Prairie were slowed by an accident involving a semi that had jack-knifed. It travelled west and moved into the median between the east and westbound lanes just before Angle Road.

It was reported that traffic was slowed to about 10 km/h and backed up over the overpass behind the incident.

Airdrie Techmation Thunder spotlight of the week: Ethan Razon

This week's Airdrie Techmation Thunder Spotlight belongs to Ethan Razon.

The Thunder only had one game last week when they took on the former league champs the Carstar Okotoks Bisons. Unfortunately, the Thunder fell short 6-3. This brings the Thunder's season record to 8-7.

Head Coach and General Manager Mark Kulynych wrote that even though that was not the outcome they were hoping for, Razon had a good game.
