In the first of our federal candidate profiles, meet Valerie Brooks, Green Party Candidate for Yorkton-Melville.
We asked each candidate to respond to four questions. The following article represents the candidate's responses, edited for space.
Charge laid in Monday morning crash east of Winkler
One driver is being charged after a two-vehicle crash east of Winkler on Highway 14 Monday morning.
According to Pembina Valley RCMP, a vehicle turning west onto the highway from Reinfeld Street in Reinfeld collided with a vehicle heading east on the highway. Both drivers were taken to hospital in stable condition.
The driver of the vehicle that turned is being charged under the Highway Traffic Act for proceeding when unsafe to do so.
RCMP say the highway is open to traffic in both directions.

A landspout tornado touched down in southern Alberta near Rolling Hills on Saturday, marking the first confirmed tornado in Canada so far this year, according to Environment Canada. Rolling Hills is located about 250 kilometres southeast of Airdrie.

Update: Sylvan Lake RCMP assist with residential fire
Fire crews and RCMP responded to a reported fire on Friday in the area of 51 Avenue and 47 Street in Sylvan Lake.
RCMP say the fire ended up being to the yard and fence and was extinguished by the fire department.
Although some siding was melted, there was no loss of any structures and there were no injuries.
The fire was accidentally caused by a resident.
Alberta measles cases climb to 58 as health officials urge vaccination
Alberta’s top doctor is urging residents to ensure their measles immunizations are up to date as the province faces a growing number of confirmed cases.
As of April 11, there have been 58 confirmed cases of measles in Alberta, with the majority concentrated in the south and central health zones.

St. James community rallies after family loses home in Crestview fire
The St. James community is rallying together to help a family who recently lost everything after their Crestview area townhouse went up in flames.
The fire broke out shortly after 4 p.m. on Friday at the Fairlane Meadows in the 200 block of Fairlane Avenue.
It took crews about four hours to get the fire under control.
The family of four, including two young children, were able to escape without injury. Their cats were rescued by firefighters and are currently at the emergency vet.
RCMP seek help in locating missing woman who may be in Saskatchewan
RCMP are asking for the public’s help in locating 32-year-old Elizabeth Thuy Nguyen, who has been reported missing.
Nguyen was last seen in Airdrie on April 11.
Authorities believe she may be in the Regina, Saskatchewan area, and there is concern for her well-being.
