Alberta RCMP highlight #StockingUpOnSafety during the holidays

With the holiday celebrations nearing, many families will be taking provincial roads and highways to visit their loved ones. With that in mind, the Alberta RCMP is giving tips on staying safe on the roads.

“There are simple practices drivers can do to help keep the roads safe for everyone this December,” said Sgt. Darrin Turnbull, Alberta RCMP Traffic in a release. “We all have a responsibility when it comes to road safety. Do your part to ensure you, and those you are sharing the road with, make it home this holiday season.”

Holiday travel warning: Treacherous conditions across Alberta

According to the Alberta RCMP, several locations in the province have poor driving conditions.

"South of Calgary, freezing rain is causing extremely poor road conditions. On Highway 2 South of Highway 23, High River RCMP are responding to multiple collisions including jackknifed semi trucks."

In many areas north of Red Deer, dense fog is significantly reducing visibility, leading to multiple collisions requiring police response.

"Motorists are asked to avoid travel and ensure they check Alberta 511 for the most up-to-date highway conditions and plan accordingly."

UPDATE: Holiday travellers facing QEII slow downs due to collisions

If you are headed north this weekend for the holidays you could be in store for some slow downs.

Alberta RCMP advises of poor driving conditions on the QE II Highway between Leduc and Red Deer. RCMP have responded to several QE II collisions throughout the morning.

Icy patches were contributing to poor road conditions and they say travel is not recommended.

Connecting with Canadian and Family History at the CATPM

The CATPM is located just north of Brandon on the Brandon Airport grounds.

The addition of these vintage aircraft to their current collection has been a welcome sight. All date back to the 1940's when Canada trained flight crew during World War II.
