Measles Update #5

Public health officials with Manitoba Health, Seniors and Long-Term Care are notifying the public of new measles exposure sites.

Public health is asking individuals who think they may have been exposed at the following locations but have not been directly notified to contact Health Links-Info Santé at 204-788-8200 in Winnipeg or 1-888-315-9257 toll-free in Manitoba:

Exposure Sites:  Real Canadian Superstore, 175 Cargill Rd., Winkler

Exposure Date and Time: April 28 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Portage la Prairie Mayor urges proper use of city waste sites

Portage la Prairie Mayor Sharilyn Knox is calling on residents to use municipal composting and tree disposal facilities more responsibly as seasonal yard cleanup ramps up. The reminder follows repeated instances of non-organic waste and furniture being illegally dumped at designated sites. She notes this led to added strain on city resources.

Sisters of St. Joseph’s inducted as Trailblazers at Southeast Women of Distinction Awards

The legacy of the Sisters of St. Joseph’s Hospital took center stage at the 2025 Southeast Women of Distinction Awards in Estevan, where they were named this year’s Trailblazer Inductee.

The 2025 Trailblazer Memorial Walk proudly recognized the lasting impact of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada and their pivotal role in establishing and operating St. Joseph’s Hospital in Estevan. Their induction was announced during a heartfelt ceremony that also celebrated past honourees Shirley Carson, Melodye Pierson, Shirley Orsted, Ida Petterson. 

Online applications for Big Game Draw 2025 open May 1

Big game hunters in the province can get excited about the upcoming season. Beginning May 1, Saskatchewan hunters have the opportunity to apply for the 2025 Big Game Draw to secure limited opportunities to hunt mule deer, elk, moose and pronghorn across the province.  

"The Big Game Draw is your opportunity to experience Saskatchewan's world-class hunting firsthand," Environment Minister Travis Keisig said. "We want every hunter to have a fair chance at success and that starts with applying early and being prepared."

Portage’s Republic Park ready for Spring sports season

With warmer weather arriving and local sports teams gearing up, the Portage Regional Recreation Authority (PRRA) says Republic Park is ready for action.

"We've had our contractor, Go Green, out there working hard to get everything cleaned up and prepped," said Angie Shindle, general manager of the PRRA.

"Most soccer and baseball teams will start practices next week, with a few already taking advantage of the great weather this weekend."
