Environment Canada says a warmer work week is in store for Portage la Prairie.

Meteorologist Samantha Mauti tells PortageOnline that a system is being tracked across the southern portion of the prairies that will see a warm front come to town starting Tuesday morning.

"Normal temperatures for this time of year for Portage la Prairie are highs of -5 and lows of -14. So, for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, the temperature is expected to be above the freezing mark or right at the freezing mark. Temperatures will be around 5° to 8° above normal on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday."

Mauti explains that things will get closer to normal again when Friday rolls around.

"So, it's going to be below 0 on Friday, and then for Saturday and Sunday, we are seeing the temperatures sitting close to the freezing mark with highs of -5 and -7."

If you have noticed that the weather has been warmer than usual this fall, you are not alone. According to Environment Canada records, Portage has experienced its 9th warmest autumn on record, as confirmed by Mauti.

"It looks like things for the next little while are expected to be above normal. The probability is sitting close to 40 or 50 per cent chance of above normal temperatures for the Portage la Prairie area."
