This week, the Thursday Thunder Player of the Week for the Airdrie Techmation Thunder is 18-year-old rookie Calan Blondeau.
This is the second time Blondeau has been named player of the week.
From Airdrie, Blondeau has played hockey within Airdrie for many years, including with the Airdrie Xtreme U15 AAA, AC Avalanche U16 AAA and Airdrie CFR Bisons U18 AAA.
This past weekend the Thunder only played one game on Friday (November 24), beating the Ponoka Stampeders for a second straight game 8-2.
Blondeau had two goals in the game, bringing his season total to five goals and three assists in 17 games played.
"Blondie had a couple of points this weekend and was able to contribute in multiple ways. Blondie is a utility player who can play where he is needed. He played forward on Friday night and had a huge impact up front," Stated Thunder General Manager Shaun Guest.
While the team is now on a two-game winning streak, Blondeau does hope they are able to keep the momentum.
"A lot of changes in the past few weeks including a lot of new faces, so things are looking better."
The goal remains the same, he hopes they are able to keep this winning streak going and make a run for the playoffs.
"We're just hoping we can get there (playoffs) and see how far we can get."
When asked about how he thinks he is playing this season, Blondeau said it started out a little rough since he was coming off an injury but feels like he is contributing more now.
While this is his rookie season, Blondeau does hope he can finish out his hockey career playing with his friends on the Thunder while attending school next year.
This Friday night, the Thunder return to action against the Three Hills Thrashers. The puck drops at the Ron Ebbesen Arena at 8:00 p.m.
