Portage la Prairie RCMP are sharing news of an arrest made on a 22-year-old man for ditching his child following a highly intoxicated public moment.
At 9:34 PM on December 1st, police say they received a call of an intoxicated man pushing a stroller in the middle of the street. RCMP attended and spoke to the 22-year-old. The man in question was deemed to be too intoxicated to care for the child.
The RCMP placed the child in the RCMP vehicle so the child could warm up. The man was advised that he was under arrest. He then ran away from the police, but the officer on the scene did not pursue him as they did not want to leave the child unattended. Police later located the man and arrested him for abandoning a child under ten years old, resisting/obstructing a peace officer in the execution of duty and failing to comply with the release order.
The man has since been released from custody by a judge and has charges pending.
