As the dry conditions persist, the level of Lake of the Woods continues to drop.

According to the Lake of the Woods Control Board, Lake of the Woods dropped by 5 cm (2 in) over the past week, and the water level is expected to continue to decline over the next week by another 2 to 4 cm (1 to 2 in).

The current level of Lake of the Woods is 322.7 m (1058.7 ft), which is in the 15th percentile for this time of year.

The last time the lake level was this low was at the end of June 2006. Throughout the summer of 2006, the level of Lake of the Woods continued to decline due to drought. Lake of the Woods was this low at the start of June 2018, but rose throughout the month.

The Lake of the Woods Control Board warns if the area doesn't receive significant rain, we could see summer similar to 2006.

Lake of the Woods authorized an outflow reduction from 170 to 160 m3/s, yesterday, and a second reduction to 150 m3/s today.

The level of the Winnipeg River immediately below the Norman Dam is expected to drop by a total of 4 cm (2 in) over this period. Locations downstream will see the level drop by 1 to 2 cm (1 in). The level at Minaki will not be affected by these flow changes.

Portal
