A Winnipeg church has found a festive way to spread cheer as Christmas draws near.

On Wednesday morning, members of John Black Memorial United Church dressed up in biblical costumes and lined up along Henderson Highway to wave at people passing by.

"It's called 'The Wave.' We've done it for years and years," said Rev. Laurie Howard. "We dress up in biblical costumes and get out there. We've got Sheppard's and Kings and Mary."

The goal is to get 100 honks before calling it quits. Rev. Laurie says she hopes by doing this, they are bringing joy to those who need it.

"It makes you smile, said Rev. Laurie. "Isn't that important these days? There are so many grumpy people and road rage and all that. We just want people to lighten up a bit and feel the spirit. Enjoy it. Life's too short. Just be happy."

John Black Memorial United Church will host a Christmas Eve service featuring those who dressed up for 'The Wave' on Dec. 24 at 4 p.m.
