When asked about what most excites her as she approaches the midpoint of her Grade 12 year, Hayley Tote doesn’t mention university applications or even the volleyball she excels at. Instead, she talks about people.
“I have really good friendships that I’d like to maintain after high school,” she says. “I’d also like to build friendships with people I don’t talk to regularly.”
It’s Tote’s people-first mentality, combined with her quite obvious ability on the volleyball court, that has made her the Providence University College Student Athlete of the Month for November, 2023.
“It was pretty exciting,” says Tote, recalling being informed that she’d won the monthly award. “My sister nominated me, and when she told me I won, I was super pumped. I feel very honoured.”
A Grade 12 student at Faith Academy in Winnipeg, Tote plays both basketball and volleyball but tends to prefer the latter, where she plays the middle position. After graduation, she’ll look to pursue a degree in the health science/medical field.
Wherever she decides to enroll for post-secondary study, Tote will no doubt make a difference through her high-level play on the volleyball court – and as a friend off of it.
