Morden's new Mayor and councillors took their oath of office Friday and are now officially part of city council. Nancy Penner was elected Mayor in Wednesday's by-election, with Tracey Krause and Brenda Klassen voted onto council.

"I'm so excited, and really just deeply honoured people trusted me enough to vote for me, and that we had a good turnout for the vote, even though it was a by-election," shared Krause after the ceremony. "The whole process, there were so many people coming up to me, and sharing some words of wisdom, ideas they have, some concerns and I just appreciated each person, and their concern for our town, for their vision, for their ideas they shared with me."

"I'm so excited to work with this group of people, and so excited it's three women who were voted in, three strong women," said Klassen. "I think we're going to work really well together with the existing Council, and all of us together, looking forward to seeing what we can get done."

And what are the two new councillors most looking forward to?

"We have such a great group of people, and I'm looking forward to getting to know each of them better," said Krause. "I'm looking forward to getting to know the details for the issues that are current. Goodness, we have a budget meeting next week, so I'm looking forward to getting right into the details. I'm a details person, so I like to know the nuts and bolts, and what really is making things tick."

"My learning curve is going to be high, so I want to be effective," said Klassen. "I'm looking forward to learning the role, and how we work together. Also, how to ask questions in a way that is meaningful."
