Raymond Leier
January 3, 1933 – December 23, 2023
The family of Raymond Joseph Leier, 90 years, of Humboldt is saddened to announce his sudden passing on Saturday, December 23, 2023. Raymond was born on January 3, 1933 to Charles and Gertrude Leier. He grew up on the farm and attended school in Allan. After graduating, Ray worked at various jobs. Ray took a job in Saskatoon with a housing contractor for a year, he did farming with his farm neighbors, and ran the hotel bars in Allan, Elstow and Aberdeen. On June 13, 1956 Ray started work with the CNR (Canadian National Railway) and retired from the CN Rail on July 23, 1975. During his time with the CNR he worked at over 60 Station Houses and met many people he was still friends with till the moment he passed. Ray, met Velma Paulson while he worked in Raymore between Feb 26 – March 14 1959 (as dad always said “It was the Best Day of His Life”). They were married on May 25, 1960 in Raymore and because of Ray’s job, they lived in various communities around Saskatchewan. Ray went back to school while working on the railroad and after he had 4 children to get his accounting education. Ray and Velma made a big move from Prud’homme to Humboldt where Ray started work with M.S. Deutscher & Co. on July 23, 1975 until July 6, 1979 at which time Ray was offered a job with St. Elizabeth Hospital to be the Controller (Director of Finance and Personnel). Ray started working for St Elizabeth Hospital on July 16, 1979 until he retired in March of 1993. Once Ray started working at St. Elizabeth Hospital, he decided to take on evening work and started doing Personal Income Tax as a side business out of his home. From 1979 – 2020, Ray operated Ray Leier Income Tax Consultant. Ray and Velma built a life together as a great team at work and at home. Over the years he volunteered at a number of different associations as the treasurer, he also did Annual Reviews for numerous Charity's and wore many other hats, including volunteering as a hockey coach. Ray and Velma were able to enjoy many trips throughout Canada and the world with family and friends. He loved being a grandpa and was fortunate to have his grandchildren join them for lunch weekly. They were proud supporters of the Humboldt Broncos and loved attending hockey games. Ray’s friendly, thoughtful, and compassionate personality left a mark on all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his four children, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren: Shauna (Gary) Schenn of Saskatoon and family Chris (Jackie) Schenn and children Addison and Brynn of Lloydminster; Brad (Cynthia) Leier of Humboldt and family Jared (Megan) Leier of Saskatoon, Becca Leier of Victoria, BC, Tyler Leier (Danielle Wuchner) of Saskatoon and Kayden Leier of Humboldt; Karen Leier (Rory Crawford) of Saskatoon; Lisa (Dwayne) Clark and family Brock Clark, McKenna Clark and Josh Clark, all of Saskatoon; and brother and sisters: Josephine Walter of Saskatoon, Germaine Bubela of Surrey, BC, Marty (Edie) Leier of Vernon, BC and Winnie (Melvin) Boehm of Saskatoon; and numerous nieces and nephews.
