You know you’ve found someplace exciting when the co-owners style themselves “Director of Awesomeness” and “Director of Extraordinaire.”
And when their business lives up to the creative descriptors.
“We really just wanted to bring in some more exciting things to do in Airdrie,” explains Tracy Wright of Glitch Gaming Lounge, the Director of Awesomeness. “When we started planning there wasn’t a lot of entertainment around. We figured we’d bring in a little more of the gaming and kind of come together for the community. We’ll have been open for two years as of this January.”
Located at 203-127 Kingsview Rd SE in Airdrie, at the bottom of the hill by the dog park, Glitch Gaming Lounge is a virtual buffet of gaming, dining and live music excitement. Emphasis on “virtual.”
“We have a lot of virtual reality gaming,” says Lindsey Licht, Director Extraordinaire. “There are 12 stations of VR and about 50 games, and we’re also getting more into VR escape room gaming.” She adds that guests will also enjoy the console gaming, pool tables and pinball, and points out that Glitch offers a full menu as well.
“Our kitchen has a lot of gluten free options, so people can be reassured of our awareness around celiac or gluten intolerances,” she says.
Popular items include The Basic Glitch Burger, Onion Petals, pizza, chili and deep fried Oreos.
Glitch is intentional about entertaining customers of all ages, whether facilitating kids’ birthday parties or booking their entire space to sports teams, office functions and other events. More recently, they’ve started staging live music on Friday and Saturday nights and have hosted bands from Calgary and as far away as Lethbridge.
They also do Jam Nights each Thursday, and anyone can sign up and show off their musical talent.
“Essentially, we have a house band come in and do an open mic,” says Wright. “You can choose whether you’d rather just strum your guitar and sing, or if you’d like you can have the band play along with you. They know pretty much every song.”
Licht emphasizes that you don’t have to be a gamer to enjoy Glitch Gaming Lounge, and that they love having guests who just want to have a good time and maybe grab something to eat.
“We want to be Airdrie’s entertainment spot,” she says.
Glitch Gaming Lounge can be reached by calling (403) 945-2570, and their games, menu and live music schedule can be browsed by visiting their website.
