Thursday Thunder Player of the Week is 21-year-old Justin LeGrandeur.
From Airdrie, LeGrandeur grew up playing for teams in Airdrie like the Airdrie Lightning U15 AA, AC Avalanche U16 AAA and Airdrie Lightning U18 AA.
After being off since December 17th on the Heritage Junior Hockey League's (HJHL) Christmas break, the Thunder played a pair of games this weekend against the Three Hills Thrashers and Red Deer Vipers, winning both of them.
"Shorty (Nickname for LeGrandeur) had a three-point weekend and brought a ton of physicality to both games. Shorty is a strong leader on this team and brings a rare dynamic to this club," stated General Manager Shaun Guest.
So far this season in 12 games played, LeGrandeur has nine goals and one assist.
"It feels pretty good to get those two wins. It helps grow our confidence, which is a big thing."
LeGrandeur is proud of how the young team is coming together with the second half of the season underway.
"They're still learning, hopefully, they (his teammates) get a little bit more comfortable because playoffs is a different type of game."
Being a 21-year-old playing in his final season with the Thunder, LeGrandeur hopes they are able to make a push for the postseason and make some things happen from there.
"If I can keep doing my part for the team and help us get some wins, that would be awesome."
LeGrandeur is currently going to school for Ironwork at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology.
Currently, Airdrie sits sixth in the North Division with 16 points.
Tomorrow, the Thunder host the Sylvan Lake Wranglers at 8:00 pm at the Ron Ebbesen. Then on Saturday night, Airdrie will travel to Ponoka for a game with the Stampeders.
