It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Kyra Colleen Meyer. Kyra passed away on January 8, 2024, after a 5-year battle with mental illness. She joins her big brother, James Mikisew Meyer, who we know will be waiting for her with open arms.
Kyra was the official New Year’s baby born in Wolseley, Saskatchewan on March 22, 2002.
Kyra was a goofy, silly, happy, little girl. She loved to play outside with the neighbour Shaylee Mohr; she loved to jump on the trampoline with her big brother and sister and liked to read and watch her shows in quieter times. She was the only 5-year-old in town who knew all the words to every Bon Jovi song. Kyra had a special friendship with Rayne Seip and even though they had physical distance between them she always knew that was a safe place to land.
Kyra was very artistic and creative. There was always a project on the go such as retrofitting her clothing with fine needle work, making jewelry or knitting blankets for others.
Kyra danced at Dance Images for 10 years and loved carpooling with Paige Read. Kyra was a French immersion student at Palliser and Central Collegiate and attended both the University of Regina and Medicine Hat College. She had many teachers who cared deeply for her including Madame McCann, Madame Ethier and Madame Fafard.
Kyra was always good with little people; she enjoyed babysitting and working at daycares. She had a big heart for animals, especially her precious dog Maisey, and more recently a cat she adopted and named Cherry Diet Coke (with the help of her special friend Rayne).
When Kyra was around 10 years old, she started to suffer from depression and anxiety. That became more complicated at the start of her grade 9 year when she lost her brother James to his own struggles. At that point, life became very difficult for Kyra. Kyra experienced traumatic events that consequently led to her living with PTSD and acute anxiety. Despite all of that she continued to try over and over. She will be remembered for her courage during difficult times. This time the pain was too difficult. We can only imagine how hard that must have been for her. We are grateful for her patience with us and although our relationship with her was also challenging at times, we feel she knew she was loved. We are grateful for family and friends who supported us without judgement and without really understanding the depth of the challenges.
In our final memories with Kyra, she had a small special Christmas with immediate family. This holiday break she enjoyed decorating her own apartment and Dads Christmas Tree. She was happy and smiling as she handed out Christmas presents to everyone, including her cat and dog.
While we are devastated by this loss, we also are comforted by the knowledge that for Kyra the pain is over.
If love could have saved her, she'd still be with us. She was deeply loved by her mom and dad, and her sister.
She will be reunited with her loving big brother James, who passed on October 1, 2016. Kyra leaves behind her Dad Don Meyer, Mom Lori Meyer, Sister Alexxandra Ballantyne (Bren Whelan), Grandma Phyllis Cooper, Granny Colleen Meyer, Papa Ken Meyer, aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and dear family friends.
A Celebration of Life for Kyra will be held in the Spring of 2024. Further service details to follow at a later date.
While we appreciate flowers they are respectfully declined, however, if friends desire, they can make a donation to the Moose Jaw Humane Society or the Mental Health Unit of the Wigmore Hospital.
