Multiple large forest fires in the region have caused smoke to linger throughout Northwestern Ontario causing poor air quality and reduced visibility.

The special air quality statement put into effect yesterday by Environment Canada continues today for the Kenora, Grassy Narrows, Whitedog, Sioux Narrows, Nestor Falls, Morson, Dryden, Vermilion Bay, Ignace and English River areas.

According to firesmoke.ca, the smoke from fires in Eastern Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario will continue to cover the skies through into tomorrow with the worst coming late tonight into early tomorrow.

If you or those in your care are exposed to wildfire smoke, consider taking extra precautions to reduce your exposure. Wildfire smoke is a constantly changing mixture of particles and gases which includes many chemicals that can be harmful to your health.

Individuals may experience symptoms such as increased coughing, throat irritation, headaches, or shortness of breath. Children, seniors, and those with cardiovascular or lung disease, such as asthma, are especially at risk.
