The Municipality of Red Lake has provided its July 14th fire update.
In a social media post, the Municipality says "Red Lake Fire 077 remains a concern and is currently located approximately 30 km west of Red Lake, and 20 km from Madsen."
Red Lake Fire 077 is listed as "not under control" at 19,251.8 hectares or 192.51 km².
"At this time Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry Fire Teams, the Municipal Fire Department Volunteers, and our Mutual Aid partners continue to work on establishing sprinkler systems on the perimeter of Red Lake, Madsen, Starret-Olsen, and the Flat Lake area. This is a proactive approach and will provide an additional line of defence should the fire continue to advance towards our communities." continued the social media post.
The Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry issued an Emergency Area Order across Northwestern Ontario. This order is in effect to allow the ministry to take special measures to ensure the safety of people and the protection of critical property.
The forest fire hazard remains moderate to extreme across the district and much of the region remains under a Restricted Fire Zone at this time, including the Kenora, Fort Frances, Dryden, and Thunder Bay Districts and portions of the Sioux Lookout, Red Lake, Nipigon, and Wawa Districts
