Portage la Prairie RCMP responded to a stabbing incident Thursday, which has led to two Portage citizens being arrested and charged.
On February 22, 2024, at around 12:35 p.m., officers received a report of a stabbing outside an apartment building on 1st Street Northwest. When police arrived on the scene, a man was located suffering from a stab wound. Emergency Medical Services arrived and transported the injured 31-year-old man from Piapot First Nation in Saskatchewan to a local hospital, where he remains in stable condition.
An investigation by the RCMP has determined the victim and a 34-year-old woman from Portage were waiting for friends outside the apartment building when a vehicle pulled up.
The woman reportedly went to talk to the female driver of the vehicle. According to police a man then came out of the apartment building and engaged the victim. That is when the victim was stabbed.
The suspect entered the vehicle and fled the scene.
Austin Wieler, 26, and Keitlyn Delmage, 26, both from Portage, were arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault.
Both are appearing in Portage la Prairie provincial court on Friday.
