An Alberta clipper is currently moving through the province on its way to Manitoba.
“It’s unfolding quite dramatically across northern parts of the grain belt – snow, blowing snow, reduced visibilities across many of the regions,” said Terri Lang, meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada.
As the clipper moves towards the southeast corner of the province, snow is starting to move south. “We’re really not expecting a whole lot of accumulations – maybe a centimetre or two.”
“If you combine those with some really strong and gusty winds, you might see some snow and blowing snow develop.”
Winds in Moose Jaw are expected to gust to 50 tonight, with a low of -23 turning into –35 with the wind chill overnight and a risk of frostbite as the cold air from the clipper blows through.
“Expect some cold overnight lows over the next couple of days – high wind chill values – and then we’ll see a recovery towards Thursday.”
The snow and blowing snow could cause reduced visibility, and icy roads are expected. Land wants to make sure motorists check the forecast and the Highway Hotline before setting out.
