After three years, Q104 and Tourism Kenora still hold the World Record for the most people wearing tartan/plaid!
On "Plaidurday", July 27, 2019, we invited you to wear your Kenora Dinner Jacket attire and head down to Kenora's Harbourfront to help us smash the previous record of 1,146, which was set in 2015. It was an incredibly hot day with temperatures hovering the 30 celsius mark, but with perseverance and patience - we did it! With the help of City staff, volunteers and our community, we stamped our place into the Guinness Book of World Records with 1,359 people wearing plaid.
The Kenora Dinner Jacket truly belongs here in Northwestern Ontario! Thank you to everyone who came out - this record really does belong to you!
Here's a look at the numbers behind the World Record day:
1,359 people counted and confirmed wearing plaid
Previous record set in Atlanta at 1,146 people
About 45 meetings
Spanning about 60 weeks
Involving about 100 volunteers
27 degrees was the afternoon high temperature
The number of cities that hold the record for the most people wearing plaid...one. Just one.
