After a busy couple of months working in the constituency, Morden-Winkler MLA Carrie Hiebert says she's excited to be back to work at the legislature to bring forward the needs and concerns of the riding as best as she can.

Our provincial government returned to work on Wednesday with the start of the spring session.

One area of concern Hiebert was able to address on day one is increasing school taxes and the impact it will have on communities.

Hiebert says she was able to ask the Premier a few questions about school taxes and the impact, combined with inflation, it will have. She says she was pleased to bring those concerns and questions personally to him on the first day back to work in Winnipeg.

"I'm excited to do that for you, for my constituents. And I just going to continue to do that," stated Hiebert. The average homeowner will notice an increase in school taxes of up to $400 next year, Hiebert noted.

While back in Winnipeg this week, Hiebert says she was able to take part in a process shedding light on foster care parents and families, and the urgent need they have for an increase in funding. "Affordability has increased so much, and nothing has gone up for them," said Hiebert.

"Walking in the first day (Legislative session), you just continually feel the magnitude of the trust and faith placed in me by my constituents of Morden-Winkler. I've had a busy couple of months in the constituency meeting with different groups, like school divisions, care homes, businesses, and other organizations and it's been a really great time for me to speak with people and see what their concerns are."

Hiebert says now that she's back in Winnipeg, it's her priority to bring forward any concerns and represent the community as best as she can.
