GROFF
On Wednesday March 6th, 2024, Gladys Evelyn Groff passed away peacefully in the Regina General Hospital at the age of 89 with her family close by her side.
Gladys was born September 26, 1934 at the Whitewood Hospital and grew up in the Kipling and Broadview area. After she finished her schooling, her working years began with the Broadview Hotel and later the District School Board Office. In September 1959 Gladys married Lloyd (Doc) Groff in Broadview and their journey led them to Estevan and then Moose Jaw as they grew their family.
A consummate multitasker, Gladys donned many hats throughout her life. While she excelled as a devoted mother and homemaker, she was also very involved in the community. She seemed to be always volunteering at her children's schools, participating in the Block Parent association, sewing, baking, cooking for various events, or tending to the needs of the less fortunate. For over four decades many people knew her as the friendly neighborhood Avon Lady, always ready with tea or coffee and "dainties" when any customers stopped by. Gladys was also an avid gardener and green thumb, often tending to her sprawling garden or to her many indoor plants. Her home was a sanctuary not only for her family and friends but also for the menagerie of pets that were often brought home from her children. Gladys' faith was the cornerstone of her existence, manifested through her active engagement in the Lutheran Church. From partaking in many Bible study groups and teaching Sunday School and summer Bible School, member of the LWML, serving meals on wheels, and even taking on the role of Sunday School Superintendent when she didn't think she could do it. Her commitment to service knew no bounds. A compassionate, authentic and giving soul to all who knew her, you knew you had a friend for life! She loved God, her family, her friends and leaving this world has definitely left a void.
Left to cherish her name are her daughters Lou (Brad) Flanagan and Bonnie Groff-Love (Mac Cornwall), and her son Scott (Michelle) Groff. Along with her grandchildren Nathan, Brendan, Tatum, Jackson, Emma, Mackenzie and Sadie; and great grandchildren Ember, Beau and Sutton. Also, her last remaining sibling, her brother Brian (Sandy) Grams. She will also be lovingly remembered by a longtime special friend Phil Panchasi, as well as many other family and friends too numerous to mention.
Gladys was predeceased by her husband Lloyd (Doc) Groff, and her parents Fred and Helena Grams.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Regina General Hospital for their compassionate care during her final days, as well as to the dedicated staff at Marie Manor Care Home (Regina) and Chez Nous Care Home (Moose Jaw) for their care and friendship over the years. Even in her decline, it was often said that Mom was a "Sweet, lovely lady who kept everyone laughing". Our Mom left a beautiful footprint in this world, and we thank everyone for being a part of her life.
In honoring Gladys' memory, the family will hold a private celebration of her life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the charity of your choosing.
Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Michelle Ellis, Funeral Director 306-693-4550 www.moosejawfuneralhome.com
