Tuesday night was busy for the Crossfield Fire Department as two different fires broke out. Fire crews were able to get them under control with minimal damage.
Bill Messner, the Fire Chief for the Crossfield Fire Department talked about the first fire they attended.
"We had responded to the report of a grass fire, just in the northern area of the town along the railway."
When crews arrived, there was a fire that was impinging into a storage area of miscellaneous items.
"They (fire crews) initiated a fire attack and brought the flames under control. While that was happening, we had a report of a secondary fire, near the south area of the town."
A secondary crew responded to that fire and was able to bring it under control. Luckily no property was destroyed in the second fire.
"In the northern area fire, we had an engine and one of our brush trucks. In the southern area, we had an engine."
According to Messner, the causes of the fires are still undetermined as they are still under investigation.
With a dry summer season on its way, Messner wants to remind residents to be safe and always be fire-prone.
"We ask people to take care in terms of discarding things like smoking materials and doing any type of outside burns. Please adhere to any fire bans that are put into place."
