Celine Veronica Bley
September 28, 1936 – April 14, 2024
The death of Celine Veronica (nee Jansen) Bley of St. Mary’s Villa, Humboldt, SK, (and formerly of Annaheim, SK), occurred at her residence on Sunday, April 14, 2024. She was 87 years of age. Celine was born on September 28, 1936, to George and Loretta (nee Doepker) Jansen at Lake Lenore, SK. She, along with her five brothers, grew up on a farm outside Annaheim. After completing her education, Celine embarked on adventures in places like Portage La Prairie, Winnipeg, Arkansas, and Vancouver. Throughout her travels she held diverse positions serving as a nanny, care aide in mental health facilities, a telephone operator, and a nurse’s aide in maternity and medical units. Shortly after meeting Willie, her future husband, Celine relocated to Humboldt and started working at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital. Though offered the opportunity to expand her role in healthcare, she chose to prioritize her family upon marrying Willie in 1963. Together they raised four children on the Bley farm, where Celine successfully balanced her roles as a mother and farming partner. In 2002, Celine and Willie retired and relocated to Humboldt. She welcomed the opportunity to connect with her community by delivering Meals on Wheels, assisting with church lunches, leading exercises at St. Elizabeth’s Convent, and contributing to the board that conceptualized The Elizabeth Retirement Community. Celine and Willie enjoyed fishing, and had fun-filled times at Barrier Ford Lake, a gathering point for the family to this day. Celine participated in family curling and became an avid bowler with cupboards full of prizes and trophies. She enjoyed coffee talk, quilting with friends, spending time with her family, and taking pride in her granddaughters' achievements, both significant and small. Needing further care, Celine moved into St. Mary’s Villa in early 2021. Celine will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her husband of over 60 years, WILLIAM Bley; their four children, six granddaughters, and four great-grandchildren: CHERYL Bley (John Williams), and daughter Peyton; LONNIE Bley; BRADLEY (Connie) Bley, and daughters Alisha, and Taylor (Nicolas) Rodgers and their daughter Briar; BRENDA (Greg) Gessner and daughters Britney, Brooke, and Ashlee (Blake) Simpson and their children, Bailey, Brody and Valerie; brother, Gerald (Dora) Jansen; and in-laws, Glenys Jansen, Doreen (John) Urbanski, Annette Bley, and Gene Komonoski; and by many loved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, George and Loretta (née Doepker) Jansen; in-laws, Henry and Thekla (née Kunz) Bley; brothers: Ian, Jack, Ken, and Terry Jansen; sister-in-law Louise Komonoski; and by brother-in-law Harold Bley. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Humboldt, on Friday, April 19, 1014, at 10:30 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Paul Oshin. Others taking part were: Alisha Bley, crossbearer; Britney Gessner and Brooke Gessner, scripture readers; Ashlee Simpson and Peyton Bley, intentions; Connie Bley, Greg Gessner, and John Williams, giftbearers; and Brenda Gessner, urnbearer. Celine’s granddaughters presented a Celebration Slideshow. Honorary pallbearers were “all those who shared in Celine’s life”. Interment at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Annaheim, will take place at a later date. Memorial donations may be directed to either the St. Mary’s Villa Foundation or the Elizabeth Retirement Community.
