Walter Patrick Monz
January 7, 1953 – April 29, 2024
The sudden and unexpected death of Walter Patrick Monz, 71 years of Bruno, occurred at his residence on Monday, April 29, 2024.
Walter was born on January 7, 1953, to Fredrick and Olga (nee Kalinski) Monz, he was the third youngest of 13 children. He was born very premature and was kept on a shelf above the oven in a shoe box to keep warm.
After obtaining a grade seven education Walter had to stay home and help on the family farm.
Walter married Donna Perry on August 3, 1974, at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt. They lived on his family farm for one year and then later moved to the town of Bruno where he resided until his passing. Walter and Donna were blessed with two daughters, Amy and Tracy.
He worked for Bruno Motors as a mechanic for 20+ years and then at Schlosser’s Garage until it closed. Walter was a gifted mechanic and loved the challenge of being able to fix things. He also helped his nephew farm. He never really retired as he was always helping someone fix something and kept busy tinkering!
He was an avid gardener and always grew bountiful gardens with an abundance of produce that he shared with many people. Walter had many adventures with family and friends sharing a great time hunting and fishing.
For over 30 years, Walter maintained the Bruno Lutheran Cemetery on a volunteer basis, he always kept the cemetery in immaculate condition.
The most important thing in Walter’s life was his family, he loved them dearly. The grandchildren got spoiled rotten by him, he never came to visit empty handed. He always arrived with “sweet treats” in his hand for them.
His last gift he gave his family was on Sunday evening. They all gathered, sharing stories and laughter while enjoying a BBQ and sitting around a fire. They all will remember the great evening they had with him. As he left everyone received a loving hug and a goodbye as he said “I Love You” one last time.
Walter will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 49 years, Donna Monz of Bruno, and by his two daughters, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren:
Amy (Peter) Harder and their family Shawna (Dustin) Ubell and children Morgan, Lincoln and Hudson, Jordon Harder + (1996), Kaylin Harder and Ashtin Harder;
Tracy (Blaine) Frerichs of St. Gregor and family Mattie Frerichs, Brett (Rachael) Frerichs, Bailey Frerichs and her son Colton.
A Celebration of Life was held on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. from Bruno Community Hall, Bruno SK. Interment took place at Bruno Lutheran Cemetery. Memorial donations in memory of Walter may be directed to Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital.
