Mark Seidel
August 1, 1942 – May 15, 2024
The family of Mark John Seidel, 81 years, of Humboldt, are saddened to announce his passing on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at St. Mary’s Villa, Humboldt. Mark was born on August 1, 1942 to John and Veronica (nee Schriml) Seidel. He attended elementary school in Bruno, High School at St. Peter’s College in Muenster and then Allan Business College in Saskatoon. Mark worked for a short time in Saskatoon with Thurmeier & Hergott before returning to Humboldt. In 1969, he partnered with Jerome Hergott to form Hergott & Seidel, Public Accountants. Over the years, the business changed to include new partners and associates and to incorporate the Cooperators Insurance. Mark was proud when his daughter Kelly joined in the business and welcomed Jerome’s son Dean as a partner as well, and even prouder when his grandson Mike joined the team. From 1985 – 1997, Mark also partnered with Henry Hauber to begin Commercial Industrial Manufacturing Ltd. (CIM). As busy as he was with his career, Mark was a very dedicated volunteer and served the community of Humboldt in many ways over the years. He was on the Recreation Board, an Alderman and the Mayor of Humboldt for five years. He served on many provincial and national boards including Sasktel, Saskatchewan Community Bond Board, and Efile Association of Canada. In Humboldt, he also served as President of the Humboldt Golf Club and was instrumental in getting the expansion to 18 holes started. Mark was also president of the Humboldt Jaycees and involved with Big Brothers & Sisters in Humboldt as a Big Brother for 13 years. He was awarded the Queen’s Jubilee Medal for his many volunteerism over the years. He was also inducted to the Humboldt Business Hall of Fame in 2014.
As busy as Mark was, he always managed to find time to be with his girls any opportunity he could. He was actively involved with his daughter’s activities growing up and coached the first girl’s hockey team in Humboldt. This did not change when Mark and Shirley wed and Chad and Carmen become part of his life. He was proud of all of us especially all his grandchildren. He loved to follow all of their various activities throughout the years. He enjoyed golfing, spending time at their cabin at Stoney Lake, travelling with his family, playing cards and he appreciated a good meal. Not to mention hunting, fishing and camping and was known to pull a few pony tails here and there.
Mark was a prostate cancer survivor and although busy, he always had time to share his experiences with others who were dealing with the same issue. He had the biggest heart and was always willing and wanting to help!
Mark worked until he couldn’t anymore but he never thought of it as work. In his words, “Why would you want to stop working or retire, when you have the greatest partners, the best staff in the world, I just want to keep going because I love every minute and every day at work”.
Mark will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife Shirley of Humboldt; his four daughters and their families: Kelly Herperger (Glen) of Humboldt and her son Mike Herperger (Anna Young) of Saskatoon; Cathy (Cecil) Targerson of Maple Creek and family Ryan Targerson, and Derek (Kim) Targerson and children Winnie and Hank; Joy Berschiminsky (Ted) of Prince Albert and her sons Bryce Berschiminsky of Humboldt and Blake Berschiminsky and Bray Berschiminsky, both of Saskatoon; and Rhonda (Darren) McConnell of Wakaw; step-children and their families: Chad (Kristin) Lins and family Beckett Lins, Mason Lins and Alexandra Lins, all of Winnipeg, MB; and Carmen (Kyle) Fraser and family Dallin Fraser, Shae Fraser, and Landon Fraser, all of Humboldt; brother Henry (Donna) Seidel of Saskatoon; mother-in-law Hilda Therres of Humboldt; in-laws of the Therres family: Bev (Brian) Loose, Cheryl (Kevin) McNally, Maureen (Gord) Lees, and Kurt Therres (Amanda); as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Vernonica Seidel; brothers Ben (Annavon) Seidel, Gilbert (Marj) Seidel, and Raymond Seidel; and the mother of his children Mary Ellen LaBrash, and father-in-law Walter Therres.
