A previous severe thunderstorm watch issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada has ended.

On Tuesday evening, the watch was issued for areas of Rocky View County, including areas near Irricana and Beiseker, as well as Kathyrn.

"Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts this evening."

Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles.

"Be prepared for severe weather. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches."

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, and torrential rainfall.

Much of Southern Alberta was under a severe thunderstorm watch, and in certain places, a severe thunderstorm warning was in effect.

There are no weather advisories for Airdrie, though there is a possibility of showers this evening with a risk of a thunderstorm.
