The Carstairs Fire Department has reclaimed its title as tug-of-war champion at Carstairs Heritage Festival 2024.

The fire department had enough members willing to participate in the event that they had two teams, one team finishing in first and one in third. Here are the members of the winning team that beat the CrossFit team in the final:

  • Jill McCambly
  • Brenny McCambly
  • Kyle Paulson
  • Paul Conroy
  • Tyler Wood
  • Austin Harding

Josh Van Arnam, the fire prevention officer with the fire department explained what the festival is all about.

"It's a one-day festival that is based on our Scottish heritage in Carstairs. They have pipe bands, there are lots of activities for the kids to do and they do some highland games as well."

The fire department is always asked to participate in the tug-of-war event and they do it every year if they have enough firefighters willing to participate.

"We won two years ago, but lost last year, so it's nice to have the trophy back."

Van Arnam explained it's important for the firefighters to be out in the community for people to see them and to help build chemistry.

"We like to showcase ourselves as good community members that enjoy serving our community but also be a part of it."

The trophy will sit in the fire hall on display till next year when they try to retain their title of champions.
